They won, but they still stole that song and many others.

The Stones stole Prodigal Son from Reverend Robert Wilkins. I have a 1964 Blues at Newport album with Wilkins doing the song. Of course, he took it right out of the Bible, so maybe he did a little borrowing, too, although the music wasn’t in the Bible. That was his, not Keith’s.

It's hard to steal something that was already a cliche (in this case, the minor line cliche). It's especially hard to steal what wasn't there in the first place (e.g., contrary motion).

OK. I remember that many, many, many moons ago I came up with an arrangement of "I Wonder as I Wander" (on the 2008 AG Christmas disc) recorded in my home office. Chicago Bob was sitting across from me and so was AJ Rosales. Robby Joe (Bob Watkins) was supposed to stop by too. I forgot to unplug the phone in the room. A funny thing ocurred. Anyrate. I have a descending Am chord pattern in the arrangement. Here's a link to the silly recording soundcloud.com/marshallsongs-1/i-wonder-is-robbie-on-the-phone/s-cF6azAm I in danger of being sued?
