Good morning and happy St. Patrick's Day. Younger daughter appears to be locked down in the Bay Area. She may have gotten an exemption because of where she works but we haven't heard how that turned out. Diane and I may go for a walk in the local Japanese garden, which remains open (last we heard) and is conducive to social distancing.
Keep on the sunny side.

Good morning.
Life goes on but Tom Brady announced he's leaving the Patriots so Doc and I will be mourning today. I had hoped he'd stick around for a year and break in the new quarterback but I guess it is not to be.
Still no reports of virus here on the shore but lots of stuff is closed down. Actually there isn't lots of stuff here to close down. Got no plans.
Stay well.

I'm all alone in the newsroom today, at least so far, and not counting the big dude filling up the vending machines with snax and costly water. A nightsider with whom I am kinda close left me a green bagel -- at least I HOPE it's sposed to be green! Our governor shut down all eateries and bars, effective at 5 p.m. today, gonna be an odd St. Paddy's.

No green Chicago River today. I think the stores, while they don't have TP, probably have a large supply of corned beef in the cooler.

We managed to get some TP for the office, so one crisis averted. Our office supply company seriously dropped the ball.

Good morning!
Phew! How life changes in a week!! Grand kiddos have no school from now til “who knows?” The other Grandma has come for the week so I have a bit of time to get ready for next week to home school the 8 and 4.5 year old! All day everyday til they can go back to school! The 8 year old may get some work from the teacher but she is not a fan of doing school work at home so I need to be locked and loaded with a schedule, supplemental materials, and thoughtfully mapped out physical space before they blast into my house next Monday!!
Mom is in an assisted living facility but classified as “independent”. She gets meals and housekeeping but I manage her meds and laundry. Her med dispenser needs to be refilled but her facility is on lock down. I have to call there to see what they suggest we do about this.
Otherwise like most people, we are just sitting tight. We walk the dog to get sunshine and fresh air.
Stay well, Everyone!! ❤️

Finger are sore from playing guitar yesterday, so, to help fill my days of isolation, this morning I got out my electronic keyboard. Now all I have to do is lean to play it! At least that will only hurt my ears and not my fingers.

No green Chicago River today. I think the stores, while they don't have TP, probably have a large supply of corned beef in the cooler. Report from the Cedar Rapids Sam's club was that the only food left was a pile of corned beef (everyone is waiting until tomorrow to buy it when it should be cheaper I guess).
House calls are being cancelled by anyone living in a retirement community (not health care related like assisted living / nursing homes they are on lock down, "active adult" locations) as they are advised not to have any deliveries / service calls that aren't absolute necessity. So my week is getting interesting with re-scheduling.

Well fark. The 2003 Mercedes failed smog inspection yesterday. Not because it’s polluting too much. It’s because it sits fir months, unused, so I disconnect the battery so the clock and stuf doesn’t drain it. That also kills the sensors memory, which is sposed to tell the smog computer the state uses how clean the engine is, or not. Without the sensor info, it’s a automatic fail. That will be sixty bucks, please. So, I had to drive it forty miles yesterday in stop and go traffic to rest one of the sensors. Then 60 miles this morning at freeway speeds to reset another sensor, the six cold starts to rest another sensor, then back to the smog place and cross my fingers it worked. That will be another sixty bucks, Wonder. Who knew?
If it goes as planned I can get it registered tomorrow and we get the hell out of here by Thursday am. Maybe we can close on the new house early and have a place to ride out the storm.
Mike

I delivered pots this morning and then found a nice, leisurely way to take dirt roads (almost) all the way home from Goshen. Dar's fixing corn beef brisket for tonight. Are you green?

Finishing dinner last night when the burglar alarm started beeping. Low bat in one of the motion sensors. A CR123, which we didn't have. Normally we would run out and buy some. Shortly thereafter, the alarm company called to tell us we had a low battery. Turned out there was a service guy close by and he was here in 10 minutes. Had him replace 3 batteries. Don't know how much that will add to our bill, don't care.
We're hunkering down pretty well, but Mr. H needs to refill a prescription. Eventually we'll make a very quick run to Walmart to get it and see what other essentials we can buy.
I'm keeping busy with scoring 50 essays for a scholarship contest. Previously did one round of judging, then raised my virtual hand when they needed judges for this round. Might as well keep busy. Surreal to read the hopes and plans of these (mostly) kids and wonder how those will be put on hold now.
We're still doing our walk every day. As I told Mr. H, the best things we can do for ourselves are to get enough sleep, exercise, and eat as healthy as we can given the limitation of what food we can get and shopping infrequently. We do have all the makings for the traditional St. Pat's Day dinner.
Cyndy, wonderful that you have the skills to teach the little ones.

My son turned 31 today. He summed it up: "Worst birthday ever, Dad."
I worked from home for the first time. Only took me 5-1/2 hours to get the software and connections stuff sorted out. Good thing we have IT support from the company... I think we are going to be spending a lot of time at home, and our Mayor DeBlaiso said that the idea of a full lock-down is "on the table." I am not even certain about the specific ramifications of that. In Italy, they can still go to the grocery store and the pharmacy.

Well tomorrow is the last day for weeks or months I see live patients. Weekend off like always then Monday I become a telephone doc. I will phone patients who had a covid test and discuss what their results mean, and what their next steps should be. That'll be mildly interesting for awhile. Lots of fresh air walks, guitar, Netflix and boredom? A preview of retirement perhaps. Different fer shore.
