We be out of here in about two hours. News reports traffic on all the freeways is very very light. Lord willing and the river don’t rise, we will be in Corning this evening.

Good morning, Spring has arrived. However it's traditional companion, a sense of a bright new beginning, seems to be running behind schedule.

Wife was sent home yesterday to work from home. Since she's moving to a new position over south of the beltway in Woodbridge or some other inner DC 'burb on the 30th, she had to say quick goodbyes and crate all her stuff home. Logged on at 6:30 and worked for about 2 hours until the system crashed. Apparently the VPN needed capability for 36,000 and only has capacity for 6,000. I guess she's furloughed with pay for the next 2 weeks unless they figure something out. Life at the speed of government.
On the other hand, the new job is technically outside the beltway which, as of yesterday was also completely shut down. So the first month or two of her new job she'll be commuting on virtually empty roads.
Could be worse.

I'm fortunate to work for a company with benevolent management. We learned earlier this week that full-timers are getting an extra 80 hours of available time off for the year for matters related to COVID:
To help you with this evolving situation, we are depositing a new bank of hours that can be used when necessary to cover your time off from work related to COVID-19 in the calendar year 2020. This may include paid time if you are sick with symptoms of this virus, to care for a sick family member, to assist you with daycare and school closures or it may be used to self-quarantine due to potential exposure. If you are able, continue to work from home and ask your manager for any accommodations. We trust that you will use this time appropriately, however, we do ask that you work with your manager on this like you would with any PTO.

WOO HOO Party at Bill's ! ! !
Well Sue hit the grocery store yesterday. We don't need TP. There wasn't any. But my leaky sinuses require a lot of Puffs with lotion. Those were out too. So, I'll be making due with rationing. Multi-use tissues? And I've got some old hankies in a drawer somewhere.
I'm making a run to the liquor store this morning. Anybody need anything?

Good morning. I realized this morning that a lot of us have been in shock, including me. I think that's beginning to pass.
Last night on the phone, younger daughter was lecturing me about staying home so I don't take a hospital bed away from someone who needs it. I told her I understood.
Gotta head to the grocery this morning. Have a good day.

Nothing going on here as far as I know. Found out my son was potentially exposed to the virus but he doesn't have any symptoms and doesn't have any existing conditions so can't get a test. He thinks he's probably OK, just one contestant at the Curling match he was officiating at recently tested positive so he was notified. He's working from home for the next 3 weeks anyway so not concerned. I did go to the hardware store yesterday and it was very busy but I doubt I caught anything. It's almost Spring so maybe it will get warm and sunny and my attitude will improve. Heard the French say they've tested a combination of generic cheap drugs that seem to be effective at curing the virus. That would be nice. Happy Thursday.

Another frosty mmorning, no rain forecast. I have mixed feelings about this...good the contractor should be making progress with his other jobs, bad we really need the rain.
Better days y'all

I just ordered some Puffs from Amazon. Delivery is March 25. Free shipping. I'll survive till then.
Some friends who just got back from a trip to the Galapagos Islands (a few days early becasue they were informed Equador was closing down the next day. And it took them 30 hours to get back to the US. Including a night of sleeping on the concrete floor of the Panama airport and getting on the last plane out of Panama), said they ordered TP and paper towels from Amazon when they got home. Their delivery date is March 24. They'll survive till then.
Amazon may be the big winner in this latest crisis.

Well, for the time being, and perhaps for the duration, I have no patients scheduled to see me in the office. Retirement was just around the corner so I am reasonably set for this. But I am saddened that if and when I return months from now, my patients may have moved on. I will be the hospital's voice on following up on any tests we do at the hospital, giving results and advising what the patient should do as a result of that test, but I will not be managing patients beyond that initial contact. I am most definitely sad about this, but grateful to the hospital for keeping me busy and paid. Hope all of you, and your family and friends, remain safe and well.

I'm getting itchy feet for the weekend -- have a notion to take advantage of the cheap gas, load up some takeout BBQ and make a regional trip to somewhere I've never been, preferably an outdoor-type attraction. Pipestone National Monument would fit the bill, but it's gonna be pretty chilly there this weekend. Pondering ...

A pleasant surprise. The grocery store was not very crowded and people were being very pleasant. Most of what I wanted was available: batteries, milk, beer, ample meat, coffee, coffee filters, canned beans, onions, potatoes and plenty of fresh produce. Missing were toilet paper, oats, most canned soup and all-purpose flour. I heard someone thanking the store staff and telling them how important what they're doing is. I'd dreaded the trip but was cheered by what I found.

Pondering ... You will fine if you take reasonable precautions, but additionally, don't neglect your car's health. No tailgating whatsoever, wipe down the pump nozzle prior to insertion, and maintain at least a car's length of separation in parking lots.

The trails are busy. People are getting outside and I feel like that's good. We walked our usual 4 miles on the muddy trails, breathed deeply, listened to the creeks pouring over the rocks and under the deadfall, talked about things that mattered and things that didn't, greeted the deer -- a herd of 10. One of the nesting hawks was perched on a log, tearing a breakfast chipmunk apart.

Good morning, or what is left of it!
There is just a world of hurt right now. Sigh. 😕. It is a real challenge to stay upbeat!
My poor pregnant daughter is in the throes of figuring out how to go forward in her divorce. Only after SIL got an estimate from a realtor on their house did I come forward with an offer to purchase it from them so my daughter and the kids could stay. SIL balked being paranoid that somehow we are trying to pull one over on him. He would rather see his kids uprooted than consider a decent offer from me so they could stay. This is causing a big issue so I have withdrawn my offer. Daughter and I will find another house for her and the kids but even with the virus creating havoc, it still appears to be a seller’s market. Breaks my heart to know what is ahead for these little innocent bystanders. I have been struggling to keep an objective attitude toward my SIL through all this but I am losing that battle! Baby is due in August so there is a timeline here!
Interesting thoughts about using this time of as an opportunity to travel. We have a place in Florida and would love to shelter in place there but we don’t want to fly. If we drive we deal with public bathrooms and a hotel overnight! Doesn’t seem like a possibility!
Well, stay healthy everyone! ❤️
