Up and awake. Strange days at work, as we continue to get countervailing guidance. We are, after all, the organization that teaches operational and strategic planning for the Army... PS, I found out that a mild hangover is a good trigger for a nagging paranoia these days. "Is it the Laphroaig, or......" Best just to stick to tea.

Laphroaig can make you question a lot of things.
Good morning.
We had rain but I think it has stopped for a couple of hours anyway so if I decide to do anything it should be soon. Mowed about half the place out of boredom and frustration yesterday. Don't know how scared I should be of the grocery store but may have to stop by. I think it's safe to take out the trash and go to the post office this morning. Still only have one virus report here and it's somewhere North not really here.
Have a safe Saturday if you can.

Up if not exactly at em this am in McMinville OR. Just read a report that some scared yahoo in Palm Desert that pulled a gun on a crew of Hispanic gardeners yesterday because they were not wearing masks and the gunslinger was afraid they were spreading the virus. The gunslinger ended up in the hoosegow wher he has a greater chance of contagion. Scared and stupid is a bad combination.
Got the new house inspection report yesterday, minus the radon test that is running this weekend. There are a few problems, but the inspector said he’s seen worse. Hopeful to get into the house this weekend.
Going to a local bakery to pick up some bread this morning, then we will try to hit up Kroger’s and hope it’s not too bad. We just need a couple of things.

Kind of dreary today. A friend of ours & her daughter-in-law have both been hospitalized. Her husband & sons are quarantined. We are doing ok so far & hope to keep it that way.

Chilly but sunny here -- my game plan is to take a road trip in the Driftless Area, mostly chasing the Zumbro River and passing through towns like Mazeppa and HAMMOND and Millville and Theilman before reaching Wabasha and the Mighty Mississippi. Fun backroad driving w/ plenty of twisties and climbies and dropsies. Then I'll cross over to Sconnie and get a to-go hot hero sammich at Nelson's Cheese emporium and head back north along the Great River Road, Hwy. 35, with lots of great river vistas along the way. The automobile will thank me for the exercise.

From our local paper this morning:
"Virginia has a population of 8,500,000.
As of Friday 114 Coronavirus cases have been reported.
As of Friday there has been one reported case on Virginia’s Eastern Shore.
It is unlikely that the Eastern Shore will have stay at home restrictions.
Virginia and the Eastern Shore are not Italy, Spain, or New York City. 8.5 million people live in the boroughs of New York City.
People in Spain, Italy and other severely affected countries live in close proximity to one another. The pandemic will spread rapidly in these locations. Here on the Shore, we’re spread out and, if we exercise reasonable caution, the virus should not spread as rapidly here as elsewhere.
With more test kits becoming available, there will be a spike in Coronavirus diagnoses. Expect it.
Federal relief is on the way with direct payments to citizens, SBA loans to small business and mortgage forbearence are among the relief measures in place and under consideration."

Overcast, mostly dry, moving some bulbs from old house site to old donkey paddock. With kids out of school, more people on the island, but everyone is keeping their distance.
Better days y'all

Our county has one case, he has tested negative for everything else and has been considered positive for almost a week. He does not show up in official statistics as infected because there are still no testing kits in the county.
In an apparent effort to replace the awkwardness I feel in social situations, I picked up a flatpick yesterday for the first time in 28 years of playing. Mission Accomplished.
Cheers all.

Good morning. It'll be sunny and 54-73 here. It'll be a good day for outdoor chores.
Tomorrow we'll attend a service and an organ recital at our church via live-streaming. Listening to the pipe organ on computer speakers will probably be like eating soup through a napkin but it'll be a small dose of quasi-normality.
Stay well.

Heading over to the Fort Belvoir area with the wife today to scope out her new work digs and commute. While there we'll stop by IKEA and Guitar Center to do our part to support the forgotten retail working men and women in our country.
I'll let you know if I find anything cool to bring home.

Even with the tax filing deadlines being extended, we're still preparing returns as fast as we can, hoping to get everything out as fast as we can. According to the IL and CA "stay at home" guidelines, accountants are considered to be essential services, so our offices in those states are still "open." I assume when the order hits IN we will also be considered essential.
So that means work work work today.

Well, there are still kinks in the phone notifications I will be doing for the hospital, 45 respiratory virus screens showed up last night. about 25 viruses are tested. Not Covid 19, that's a separate test. Don't know when they will start showing up.

Well, my four-hour road trip was glorious, just what the doctor ordered -- tons of sunshine, no traffic, sweet classical music on the wireless, sunroof popped open just a tad, great roads, beautiful scenery and some pathways I've never before traveled (including a fair amount of gravel!). Some G-force driving, some dawdling, whatever felt right.
When I finally crossed into Wisconsin, I scuttled my plan to pick up a sammich at Nelson Cheese Co. and instead got a half-chicken dinner to go at J&J's BBQ and managed to get all the way home before devouring it (well, most of it). Just delicious and perfectly smoked. The BBQ beans and slaw were terrific, too. Wish I'd bought more.
Had lots of time to think and reflect and just drink in the beauty of mother nature. Splashes of white were especially noted -- snow still clinging to protected spots of the limestone bluffs, river birches reaching to the pure blue sky, and above them, the white heads of many, many soaring bald eagles. Humbling, restorative. I felt younger when I got back.
And Marty called, and we had a wonderful and leisurely chat. He is doing well and sends his best to all.
Oh, and HAPPY BIRTHDAY, Melva Radtke! Sorry we could not gather as hoped!
