It came up fine but it was too choppy to watch. And our Internet is 100 Mbps. No lags there.

Same experience here--though our bandwidth is not all that high, we got Miss Tess's video with very little lag.

She posted that it crapped out. So either she doesn’t have the bandwidth, or something between her and the rest of the world doesn’t.

There's a lot of people trying facebook live. Probably overloading the system. Plus I don't like fb live. Most of the audio I hear is garbled and mediocre. Lots of mb uploading and downloading at the same time. As nice as the "live" option is from an aesthetic point of view, more often than not it produces an amateurish product. I prefer pre-recorded video uploaded to youtube. You can get great quality video. And you can link it to fb. But you don't get the immediate live interactive feel to that. But it makes for better viewing. And it also makes it possible for anybody to see it at their own leisure. You can watch a fb live show after it's done. But then it's not live and the quality is less.

Missed the live do, but listened to Sermonette on her web page. Admire and enjoy her. A little concerned with the title of her new recording, 'Blues Again.'

Marshall, did you catch Miss Tess and the Talkbacks, who streamed via Facebook? (See the link to the recorded version of the live stream in my last post in the Wanna see how it's done? thread.)
Of course, Tess had some pro support for that production--I think one fixed and one mobile camera and somebody running tech from off-set. The real-time commenters remarked on the sound quality.

No, but I'll look at it. Earlier in the evening I was perusing fb. And I came upon a live feed from Donna Frost. She's a Nashvillian that I've met (she wouldn't remember me). And she was supposed to do a show In Chicago last Sat evening at a place I was supposed to be part of a 4 man Thursday night show. So, I thought I'd listen for a while. She was doing a facebook live thingy. Just using the camera and mic on her computer. Lousy backdrop mediocre sound. Not an organized show. But she was answering qs from fans and playing favorites. She's a clever writer. But the audio was garbly. And the whole thing froze and cut out about 15 minutes into it. There are a lot of gigging musician types that are scrambling with this and don't have the techno chops to make it happen. It's kinda sad. Sh even held up a sheet that had her email address to Paypal her some cash if you wanted to help her out. The video camera is a reversed image so the email address was unintelligible. sighI'll go to her web site and download a song or two. She's got some good ones.

I clicked on the Mary Flowers thing too just now. Lighting is bad. Her face is washed out. And the sound came through herky-jerky and garbled. Facebook Live sucks. Especially if you're using the camera and mic on your notebook computer.

Not to totally derail the discussion on Mary Flower, but I just came across a wonderful fun video on Acoustic Guitar Forum that I have to post here.
This group did it all on their cell phones. The main guy played guitar and sang. The others wore headphones and played/sang their parts. All 6 videos were brought together later and edited together. Very clever and very engaging video. Then they put it on youtube and linked it facebook.

If I can further riff on the internet video thing: Last night a local guy I know and really like was mourning the loss of our Tuesday night open mic in Mudelein, IL. He sent out an email for a Zoom video conference. I had not done anything like this, so I logged in after it started. There were 6 people on it. But the sound through my computer speakers was crackly and harsh while one guy was playing. It sounded awful. And moreover the picture of ME on the screen looked worse. I hadn't showered yesterday. I hadn't shaved. I had worked out and was wearing a sweaty loose shirt. The lighting was bad in my room. I looked AWFUL. So, I clicked off. I apologized to the moderator in an email later.
So now I found some decent speakers to plug into the computer, (I normally use clunky headphones). And I found an old Sony stereo condenser mic I used to use 15 years ago for mini-disc recording. So now I've got some decent audio gear. And I'll work on getting some lighting and a less cluttered backdrop. Not much I can do about my face. But I can work on a better viewing angle for the computer camera.
(YUCK ! I looked bad.)

To follow up on this "live steam" discussion (mono log?), tonight i went on facebook and found 4 people I know doing live feeds. And they looked pretty good. Everybody has a different setup. But I have to say the audios were very good. So were the video components. The between song banter was usually lame. But they had 25 to 60 people watching. Of course I was watching 4 at once with the sound "on" on only one at a time. So, I'm not so sure if the count represents true "watchers" or just fb friend who happen to scroll past your feed and click "like."
Nobody I saw tonight was using the camera and mic on their computer. Most had a separate cell phone doing the feed. But 3 people had microphones and amps putting out some sound to the room. One guy was outdoors on his front porch and had a lot of neighbors applauding from the street between songs. He had a vocal mic and a guitar pickup into and amp. His wife ran the camera which had it's internal mic. No direct connection.
One guy played acoustically with two mics; one for the guitar and one for the vocal. It didn't sound amplified. But it sounded good. I'm thinking he was going into a board and piping that into his camera feed. Sounded best of all. I'll have to send him a note and ask him about his signal chain. It sounded very good.
They're all asking for $$. I haven't coughed up yet. But I'll consider it.

If the guy's setup is so good, maybe it's with a few bucks...

Maybe. He's a music friend. He's not sent me any money ever. And the equipment, I'm sure he had purchased long before the Live Feed. But I'll certainly consider it. Especially if he fesses up on how he set up the thing. 2 of the other feeds were asking for $$ to support the out-of-work people at the venues they (we) usually hang out at. None of the people I was watching tonight is a full-time musician. But I was generally impressed with the quality of the audio and video feeds. Good people.
