Don't know what percentage of his dialogue in "Spinal Tap" or "Best in Show" or "A Mighty Wind" et al was improvised, but I'm thinking it was a big chunk, and it was hilarious.
He even showed up in a funny role in my favorite sci-fi TV series, "Stargate: SG1."

Surprised he died. His LAPD rap sheet indicated he could stick it out. (Bada Bing!)
Very talented comic actor. There's a compilation of his Letterman appearances that runs almost three hours.

R.I.P. His name sounded familiar but looking at his biography I can't say I saw any of his performances. Saw him in a Chuck episode this a.m. Yup. A hoot. Loved him and Martin Mull, they were sort of the U.S. answer to Monty Python.
