Morning. Y'all got me reminiscing of our early years here in NH with the kids so young. Wonderful late 30's adults now.

Good morning.
Just a normal hot and humid Summer day here, about 90. The pool's clean. Need some groceries but past that I'll just avoid heavy outdoor work. I'll do my slow moving Southerner act. I'm getting pretty good at it, straw hat and all.
Have a safe Monday.

Played at an open mic last night. First one under reopened COVID rules. It was at an American Legion Hall. Outdoors in the park. Some good people there. Nice to see friends again. Performers all had to bring their own microphones. The whole park, except the part in front of the stage was roped off into 10' squares. You were supposed to wear a mask unless you were on stage or in your 10' square. The result is I didn't get to talk to anybody for long. Perfuntory "His & Byes." It was fun playing out again. I really do enjoy it. Not a flawless performance. But I was trying out new material and it went very well overall.
But the downside is I got bored. Sue doesn't come to these things. So I sat by myself in my little cordoned off area of grass. I hung around for 2 1/2 hours, then just got up and left. Part of the joy of open mics is walking around and chatting with musical friends. I'm not as happy drinking alone.
Oh well. There's another open mic this Thursday in town on a roof deck. I'll probably go to that one.
PS - On the positive side, my guitar thru the Tonedexter and a delay pedal is a STUNNING sound. Everyone else that played had their scratchy piezo into the mediocre house system. Like nails on a chalk board. But my guitar was MONDO !

Sunny this morning, the overcast is gone, for now. Bike ride after breakfast. Might change strings today on the Collings as I’m not enthralled with PBs currently on it and want to go back to 80/20s.
Liquor store run also on tap as the wife wants some Rebel Yell, the best inexpensive bourbon we know of.
In other news, the Dachschund is snoring, and COVID still sucks.

There was sun for a while but clouds are rolling in, looks like a more normal year for rain. Weeding and mowing. Looks like an electrical problem with the fuel system on the pickup...i hate electrical problems.
Better days y'all

Good morning. We'll have a relatively mild day for late June with a predicted high of 97. The downside is that this weather blip is bringing very high winds in the mountains, which are a tinder box right now. I got out with the shovel and installed about 18 more feet of edging in an area we're trying to clear and get under control. Now I'm plumb tuckered out.
Last night I made planked salmon for dinner. I'd had the plants for quite a while. Maybe seven or eight years years. The salmon was fine but it had almost no flavor from the plank. I'm guessing that the oils had pretty much disappeared in our dry air. It's time to replank.
Keep on the sunny side.

Pouring rain. I've had 1 day off in 2 1/2 weeks. Getting tired and work is nuts - we are 13 weeks when typically we run 6-8 weeks. . Spent most of my one day off yesterday hunting the neighborhood and surrounding woods for a friend's missing 1 year old Brittany Spaniel. After about 4 hours of hiking and and ATV'ing I asked "have you posted anything on Facebook"? DOH! We were picking the dog up 45 minutes later. Facebook ain't all bad.

Good morning. Cutting cedar lumber for the grow boxes, the smell is delightful. While pulling the stuff at Home Depot, a fellow customer remarked on the high price of lumber. I suggested the only way it might seem cheap is to compare it to next year's prices.
We have less than 5,000 in the county and our local Facebook page is approaching 2,500 members. Lost pets generally don't stay lost for long.
cheers

Last night I made planked salmon for dinner. I grew up eating so much salmon I'm usually sorta "meh" about it. Last year I brought some Kenai River red salmon fillets home for the freezer. I've cooked 4 of them now and have to say it's in the rotation now for once a month. I use a fillet knife to get the skin off, cut the fillet into sections, and drop the the meat in to a huge freezer bag with olive oil, sesame oil, soy, sea salt, ground pepper, and minced garlic and minced ginger. Get everything coated and put in the fridge overnight. Pull it out of the fridge about an hour before cooking to bring up to room temperature. I bring a piece of 1x8 cedar home and sink the board in a pan of water for the day before grilling. Fire up the grill with the wet board in there. After it's good and hot lay the fish on the board. Cooking times can vary, but not long - like 15-20 minutes. Looks like

Happy Monday, Everyone.
Very sticky weather we are having here in the Milwaukee area. Daughter and Grands are here with another mom and kiddos for some lake time. We put up a shade canopy as DD is in month 8 of her pregnancy and a bit uncomfortable. Her stress level is off the charts as she tries to get the man child to whom she is married to complete “his” info as they proceed with their divorce. Just a sad situation no matter how one slices it. She is having a c section Aug 21 and wants me as her in hospital support person (can have no “visitors”) so I wil have to do a 14 day quarantine in the days leading up to the blessed event.
This may be the first year in over 10 that I probably won’t play music at the annual condo complex picnic in about a month. A neighbor now has a band though so he said they would love to play. Maybe Kim and I will try to get a couple of tunes ready and could “open” for them but time is flying. I am glad to hear some of our members are getting out to play! Our neighborhood coffee house had a solo guitar/vocalist outside yesterday. Kim and I heard her as we were talking a walk. It was a truly welcomed sound!
I am struggling about how my mom is so imprisoned in her assisted living facility by Covid. She is 90 and misses us terribly. I got an Echo Show put in her room so at least we can talk face to face but II know she would love to come over for dinner and sit and chat on our deck as we typically have done during the summertime. She has been patient and accepting but her frustration is increasing.
Speaking of Mom I better go give her a call. Will also try to get my raffle check in the mail!
Be well! ❤️

Back from doing a little shopping, Theisens and Fareway. Bought some bird seed, first time I've done that. I have a pair of mourning doves that sit in my deck railing and they seem totally unafraid of me. I've walked out on the deck, within 4 feet of them and they just sit and look at me. About a week ago I took the guitar out on the deck and played while they were there, it looked like they went to sleep while I was playing, about12 feet away from them.

Busy weekend. Prepped the driftboat Friday and went to the Siletz River Saturday morning. It was a 2 hour drive, with my friend and I attired with our masks! Not great, but I can get used to it . . . I guess. The boat, a 17 foot Koffler aluminum driftboat, pulled pretty well behind my 4Runner and it unloaded easily. The little 8 hp 2-stroke mercury motor started on the 3rd pull. Pretty good for having set around for a year. The motor pushed it easily upriver. We turned off the motor and I tried out the oars. Not quite as comfortable as my memory of the 14 foot wood drift boat I used 45 years ago, but the technique came back to me and I was able to move the boat where I wanted.
Having to deal with the boat prep, I left the rods and gear to my buddy. It was not what was needed, but then we did as well as the two other guys we saw on the river, that is, we caught small cutthroat trout. We were actually fishing for sea run cutthroat, late spring Chinook and Steelhead. Still, all facets of the boat worked, it was a gorgeous day on a gorgeous little coastal river, a bald eagle visited and there were almost no other people around.
Sunday was kitchen sink repair day - it had separated from the countertop. I fully removed the pluming and garbage disposal and undercounter sink, scraped off all the silicone (the only thing that had held the sink in place for 10 years), applied epoxy to the outer flange area and a ring of silicone to the inside edge, put the sink back under the counter and stuck 8 bamboo rods underneath to hold it in place. Hopefully it will adhere well and we can reattach the plumbing tonight or tomorrow.
Though that all sounds easy when written out, I just do not bend and maneuver well for plumbing jobs any more. Thank goodness my son was there to help!

Be well! ❤️ Cyndy, during my divorce (finalized 10 years and one week ago today), my wife and her attorney were a little slower than I wanted to be - there were a number of things that (I think) were not getting done. Luckily, my attorney was awesome, and she both prodded my wife's attorney to get some steps done and also did some of his work for him. Of course, our legal fees (both sides) were coming out of joint funds, so it didn't really matter who did the work as long as it got done. Your daughter might check with her attorney to see if some of the attorney-type things can be taken care of by that attorney, rather than her husband's.
