It'll be a pale shadow of the real thing but I'll take it! Looking forward to Arizona's first game tomorrow.

Good.
How would you do if you were invited to throw out the first pitch? Cameras are rolling, and you only get one shot.
Mine would be high and outside, possibly beyond the reach of the catcher.

I’da done better but I couldn’t handle the CDC half as well as he does. Loved watching the first innings tonight but really missed the fans. Shouldn’t bother me at all, we play senior ball with only wives and girlfriends watching. And they’re too busy gossiping to notice us.

How idiotic is it that they are STILL blacking out games?
No one can buy tickets, so how could it be a sell out to stop the blackout?

One rookie pitcher did well yesterday and his teammate’s comment was ‘he wasn’t intimidated by all the cardboard in the outfield. (That’s the cardboard cutouts of fans placed in the bleachers. )

Baseball - the American Pastime - professional & little leagues & stick ball in the streets. And of course hotdogs.

Baseball - the American Pastime - professional & little leagues & stick ball in the streets. And of course hotdogs. That. NFL has taken over Sundays, and basketball is more popular by the hour. But baseball is it, if not on the tube, on the streets and playgrounds.

Last night I watched a chunk of the D'Backs-Padres game. It was surprisingly like a regular game. When I wasn't focused on the bogus crowd noise it was effective. The only thing wrong was the score.

The Red Sox won so all's right with that part of the world.

Yep. Exactly. If baseball were interesting, it would be much more popular. Mike

Watched a bit of the White Sox game and the Cubs game. The Pale Hose are playing the Twinkies at home. Behind the plate there are cardboard people sitting in the box seats. I had to laugh. I told Sue they should pipe in some organ music at least.
Then I switched over to the Cubs game. They're also at home against the Brewers. Losing at the moment. (That damned Yelich). The Cubs are on NBC Game of the Day. And they ARE piping in artificial crowd sounds to the broadcast. Including an organ. They even superimpose video people in the bleachers when somebody hits a homerun. (That damned Yelich, and glorious Kyle Schwarber). You see the crowd stand up and cheer. But then on the replay, you see the ball bounce off of empty seats.
Bizarre. But a refreshing change from sports reruns.
