In the newspaper business, the working title for each story is called its "slug," goes back to the hot type days when a slug of hot lead would carry the title.
On news desks when a story surfaces that was not on the original "budget," the assignment editor alerts the copyeditors that there is a breaking story and what he or she has "slugged" it. In this case it might be "BISON081420," for instance. But we had one dearly beloved editor who, with a story such as this, would slug it "SERVRITE081420."

I'm reminded of a story local radio personality told me many years ago over lunch. When he was starting out, like back in the early 70's, he worked at a station where the news reader would simply substitute "hardword" any time he came across something he had no idea how to pronounce. If the actual text of a story read "Eastern European tensions increased today as Russian officials denied accusations from Romanian General Slovan Křovinořez over military action in the Pardubice region" he would read it as "Eastern European tensions increased today as Russian officials denied accusations from Czech General Slovan hardword over military action in the hardword region". All without ever missing a beat.

None of those motorcyclists displayed any evidence of thinking things through on this one. She just happened to get caught at it—figuratively, and literally.

I don't have to be able to outrun the bison. I just have to be able to outrun my pants.

At the start, she was walking around like Jane Goodall. She is no Jane Goodall. But I do see that she is from Iowa.
