Cloudy, windy, and cool. Good day for shop work I guess. Fall colors remain as good as I have seen.
Next week is looking like better weather. Hope so, I'd like to squeeze in a couple more outside gigs.

Up. Cofffee. More smoke from Calif this morning. Went to Kaiser the other day. Audiology. Guess who is getting hearing aids? Getting old is not all that. Sigh. They say it beats the alternative, but how do we know?

As for today, so far, so good. I bought groceries and now am rewarding myself with my once-a-week self-indulgent breakfast. Enjoy your day.

Ditto on fall colors. Probably the best I have seen. Conditions have been perfect. Perfectly perfect. And the dry sunny days with cool nights looks to be good for the next ten days, or longer.
I've been transplanting hostas and daylilies like a son of a gun these last couple days. Moved several dozen from the farm to the GF's house. It will be pretty impressive. A couple of the Sum and Substance hostas I divided had a spread of over 5'. I could barely lift the divisions I brought to town. They are planted in a sweet spot, so man, they are going to be knockouts right off the bat.
Soon, I will have no front or side lawn, just grassy pathways between the flower beds. The back yard will remain for gardening and dog romping.

They say it beats the alternative, but how do we know? Mike Spend a couple days pretending to be deaf when your wife talks to you. If you're still upright after that, it probably doesn't beat the alternative. If you're lying on the floor bleeding from a couple gunshot wounds, it probably beats the alternative. Let the rest of us old guys know how you do.

Good morning
Lots of emails this morning by people wanting appointments. I'll make appointments for the simple stuff and put off the difficult work until I've finished the difficult work I already have is done.
Doug said getting old hurts, he was correct.

Eye appointment went well, only a very minor change to my vision. Ordered new glasses, mainly because the old frames are beat up and the lenses are scratched. Will take a week to get the new ones.
Cool and windy, maybe a good afternoon to move some rr ties

They say it beats the alternative, but how do we know? Mike I'm 54, and I've had hearing aids for 17 years now. Makes life interesting. When I was in Afghanistan and Iraq, I used what I called the "tap check." I'd tap the following items to make sure I had them on hand before I went out of the wire. Weapon? Spare ammunition? Seat belt cutter? Tourniquet? Etc. Now when I leave the house, I have a different tap check. Spare glasses? Car keys? Phone? Hearing aid batteries? Ahh, life. ;P

Had eye test. Ordered new specs. My prescription is tricky to get right. The latest eye testing technology impressed me. Looking forward to unexpectedly improved eyesight. Happy.

Hope so, I'd like to squeeze in a couple more outside gigs. Terry, Are all your gigs with the Patsy group, or do you sit in with other configurations? Our Patsy band only does maybe 8 - 10 jobs a year. Almost all out of town. Most of my jobs have been background stuff with a little jazzy quartet. We were lucky enough to have a guy named Mel Lamar who was a professional jazz guitarist in the Milwaukee area in the 50’s and 60’s and later wound up around here and became a legendary teacher. He was amazing. We had a great trumpet player and a good bassist that sang. Mostly show tunes and standards. I hung on for dear life. Mel is 91 and a few months ago had to quit gigging secondary to health issues. The rest of us are between 75 and 80 but hanging in there, I made some backup guitar tracks to fill things out without Mel and we have actually been able to do a respectable job playing patio background. The vocals really help. Not having Mel is a big loss though, he and the horn player were the stars. Luckily, although 81 and in fragile health he is still playing great.

I'm impressed. Most people take cut flowers to their girlfriends, not transplants.
