He was one hell of a guy - altruistic I saw him a few times in Wilton / Westport Connecticut. 1960s. He had light blue VW convertible with Porsche engine. And he had a great home in Westport He had a few stinkers - movies The Silver Chalice 👎🏻 I’ve watched about good 20 movies Nobody’s Fool - and a lot more 👍🏻

Marshall, how can you contest me on something so subjective?
He was also amazing in Cool Hand Luke.

Let's not forget the sad but comedic masterpiece, Nobody's Fool.
"Hey—the ketchup stays here."

Cool Hand Luke. What a heartbreaker that movie is. And George Kennedy was amazing.

I'll mention the obvious. He was terrific in Butch Cassidy. I suspect it was hard to make such a character both believable and sympathetic. It was a terrific movie all around.

I've recently watched several of his thriller / detective films: Harper, The macintosh man, the drowning pool and have enjoyed them all.
When I think of him, it is always cool hand luke, the hustler, and cat on a hot tin roof that I think of.

You know what? I've never seen it. I'll have to add it to my list of movies for the next covid shutdown.

I enjoyed Exodus but his character in that one is pretty one-dimensional.

I agree. I was sort of busting Joe's chops a little bit.

What a talent! I loved him in the movies that I have seen, most of the above. I saw a tv piece on him from a bunch of the racing folks that he was associated with. Universally, they all said that he only wanted to talk race cars and racing. He did not want to discuss Hollywood. They said that he was pretty much treated, and wanted to be treated, as any other race driver.

His body language throughout this movie was so perfect. So downtrodden. So defeated. So naked. So noble, rising above the mundane of his life.
This is one of the greatest movie speeches of all time.
