Six of the fifteen programs in the 1958 "The Subject is Jazz" series produced by NBC for the infant educational television enterprise. The quality is surprisingly good (early tape or kinescope?), and the music is terrific--Billy Taylor, Bill Evans, Mundell Lowe, Barry Galbraith, Ed Thigpen, Art Farmer, a young Doc Severinson. The host, Gilbert Seldes, isn't exactly Alistair Cooke, but he's articulate and thoughtful, and the production is pretty slick. www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLKcw8FT1mrfDQuTAKB1OPXNDuYyby89nY
