Congratulations. I was just reading about those this morning. They sound cool. And I learned that Ford 150s (all models) have consistently outsold every other car in the US since Reagan was President. That was news to me.

You're right and I have zero interest in this, as has been the case with all the government susidized and promoted alternative fuel revolutions in my lifetime. Remember propane? I do. Drove a propane fueled Econoline when I worked for the city of Dearborn in 1980. I expect the electric vehicle craze will top out at 2 or 3 percent market share and then die when all efforts to push this collapse for lack of actual demand. Ford probably knows this too, but what the hell, if you can suck up to the people who can unilaterally shut you down on their money, who wouldn't? I hear that in internal polling, 60% of their current truck customers flat out have zero intention of even considering it. And why would I? I can put an $8500 Roush supercharger on my 5.0L and beat the shit out of the performance of my beloved old '94 Lightning even with my stock rear end AND still beat the estimated $70,000 comparable ticket of a Lariat-like electric one. And I'll still have more than twice the range and gas stations aplenty on virtually every corner in the country. And I can also plug in to my house and power it through the increasing power failures that will probably start popping up as the environmentalists continue to mandate decreasing robustness in the electrical grid. Sure, the new Lightning can do that too. Once anyways. But I can unplug and go fill the 36 gallon tank if I run out. I'm not poo pooing it for those that want it and I'm assuming Steve will probably keep his recent used 6 cylinder acquisition just in case. And I'm a homer. I'm all for anyone who wants to buy anything from the Blue Oval. But no, I'll be taking a pass. |

If this was my primary vehicle I wouldn’t be particularly interested for many of the reasons Peter lists. For that “one truck” IC is still the way to go. I’m not giving up my 22MPG gas F150 with the 6 squirrel motor any time soon.
Still waiting to hear what the commercial base $$ is, but my thinking on the new Lightning is to get the stripped down work truck model as a company vehicle, take the big Biden green incentive at tax filing plus depreciation, and own one of these for maybe sub 30K. I need to find out more about how it makes winter heat and cold weather battery performance. I have 30 amp service at home and work, so I think I could make this work as a local driver and it’s all wheel drive. I have some more due diligence to do but my hat is in the ring.

There could be an interesting dynamic approaching with regard to the "Rollin' Coal" boys, those charming fellows who modify their diesel pickups to be able to spew, at will, horrendous clouds of sooty smoke at their selected targets, like bicyclists, Prius and Tesla drivers, etc. It's an especially popular sport in Texas (imagine that).
But do you "smoke" another cool-looking F-150 when you're driving one yourself?
Of course, the Lightning driver could just put the pedal down and watch the bad guy disappear in his mirrors before a particle of soot lands on his truck.

This is not a small group of people doing this, mind you. I recall reading an otherwise wonderful story about a father/son team cycling from coast to coast and how they had to deliberately route themselves north of Texas, avoiding the most direct route, because harassment was so rampant on their previous transit. |

In my bike racing days I was training with a Cuban guy who was very muscular and a bit of a hothead.
As we were riding into town a kid in a pickup hassled us and roared off. My buddy said let’s run him down so we chased and caught him pulling into an apartment parking lot. My friend pulled him out of his car and threw him up against the fender thumping him on the chest. The kid was scared shitless.
I stood behind my buddy saying “yeah that goes for me too”

Car and Driver: Two lithium-ion battery packs are available: a Standard Range pack, which is targeting a 230-mile EPA-estimated range, and an Extended Range battery that provides a claimed 300 miles of range. Ford hasn't disclosed either pack's capacity, but we're estimating 115 kWh and 150 kWh. The powertrain setup with the smaller pack is rated at 426 horsepower, while opting for the bigger pack increases the electric motors' total output to 563 horses. Every F-150 Lightning has a dual-motor, all-wheel-drive setup. Both configurations have 775 pound-feet of torque, 205 more than the F-150's new PowerBoost hybrid V-6. Ford says the F-150 Lightning will reach 60 mph in the mid-4.0-second range with the bigger pack.
