I have a friend in the Olympia area of Washington who is having problems playing his Martin DR. A shoulder injury has made it so he couldn't play for about a year or so, and now even with some recovery work he can only play for about 15 minutes. He's asked me to build him a D28 style guitar, but I'm trying to get him to try some other sizes and styles, but he only knows of one largeish guitar store in the area that has a couple dozen acoustics that he can try - some Martins, Washburns, etc. I'd like to be able to suggest a store where he could try a variety of size guitars. He's primarily a finger picker/Travis picker. Do any of you know of a good store in the area where he could try a variety of models?

If he doesn't mind driving a bit further north, he should poke his head into A# Music in Renton (SCGC, Taylor, Huss & Dalton, Breedlove, Seagull) and Dusty Strings in Seattle (Martin, Taylor, Collings, Tippin, Goodall, Seagull). I'm a bit more partial to Dusty Strings but they're both good stores.

A quick Google came up with this place in Seattle. May not be too close but they sure have the inventory. Dusty Strings 3406 Fremont Ave. N Seattle WA 98103

Hah, we replied at the same time!
Yes, that pix is a good representation of what Dusty Strings looks like - about 50 miles north of Tacoma - wonderful place.

Thanks to both of you for the info - I passed it along, whether he'll drive the extra miles is still to be seen.
McCoy - yeah I thought about Googling, but really wanted opinions too and besides I'm lazy! :-) Thanks for the info.
Chak thanks for you're opinion - I'll try to push him up I-5 to Dusty Strings - whether he'll take a Saturday afternnon to go...

Hi Chak! MN, Doc Froon got his steller Martin somewhere around Olympia. Call Batdorf and Bronson (google) coffee roasters during work hours and ask to speak to him. He will be be happy to share, I'm sure. Tell him Wonder sent you. If he seems put off, tell him Chak sent you. Mike

50 miles isn't too bad a drive; street parking, on the other hand, is a bit more challenging around Dusty Strings!
There's also the Guitar Emporium in Ballard (Larrivee, Morgan, Webber) but Dusty is definitely the cream of the crop, IMO.

Hey Mike - how goes it? I forgot all about Doc Froon's Martin that he bought from somewhere down in the Olympia area. I just remembered his Goodall that he picked up at Dusty.

Another vote for Dusty Strings. I was down in Seattle the weekend before last and did my usual restocking there. They are great people and have a fabulous selection.

If he just wants to see different sizes, there is a Guitar Center in Tacoma.

I figured if they carry Collings the other top brands would be represented as well. I hit a homer on the first click.
