I had this odd dream last night:
I was playing guitar and singing at some venue that appeared to be a farmers' market or something similar. No one was really paying attention; folks were just milling around and shopping or otherwise enjoying their days, but that was fine and I was happy.
I started playing Lightfoot's "Canadian Railroad Trilogy." I was about a third of the way through it when an older gentleman walked up to listen more closely. I took a closer look at him and, lo and behold, it was Gordon Lightfoot himself! Once he realized I had recognized him, he stepped up and sang the rest of the song with me, sometimes singing the lead while I added harmony, sometimes letting me take the lead. When we finished the song, he just nodded at me and smiled, and walked off.
Then I woke up. It was a great dream! I just hope it doesn't portend bad news about Mr. Lightfoot!

What a great dream. I hardly dream myself but would love to have one like that.

What a great dream, Shannon! I'm just curious. In your dream, did he come across as a nice guy? I know that's an odd question to ask.

He seemed genuinely pleased to hear someone playing one of his songs. I'm glad this occurred in a dream. If it happened in real life, I would probably drop my pick into my guitar, break 2 strings, and swallow my tongue.

"I hardly dream myself but would love to have one like that."
Really? All I do is dream. Dream, dream, dream. I'm dreaming my life away.
But usually it's about having to go to the bathroom someplace outdoors with no privacy.

I always thought that Gordon Lightfoot would be a good guy to know. That wasn't my assessment of all musicians.

That’s a lot better then dreaming it’s time for finals and you realize you forgot to go to class all semester.

My favorite musical dreams involve being able to play an instrument that I know (even in the dream) that I can't play, usually trumpet, which is not even on my sixth-reincarnation wish-list. Once, though, it was piano, which I have scheduled for reincarnation #3 (after #2, fiddle). Though I suppose I really ought to spend a couple more on guitar first. . . .

Very interesting dream. I love a good dream. It sets the pattern for the entire day. Next time, dream me into it. I always wanted to meet Lightfoot so you can introduce me to him.

I met Gordon many years ago on a flight from Toronto to Chicago. He and his guitar were sitting right across from me in the 1st class section of the plane.
I don't think the people around us knew who he was. I said hello and asked if he was going to a show, he was. We had a little chat, friendly but I didn't press my luck trying to visit.

My similar and yet very different dream was sitting in a jam with Tim O'Brien, only to find that my guitar only had one or two strings.

This source, about which I know nothing, says a test you aren't prepared for is a common dream theme. amerisleep.com/blog/americas-common-recurring-dreams/Also being late for or missing a plane, finding a room in your house you didn't know was there and being unable to find a restroom.

I actually lived a common dream. When in college, first day of classes one year, I went to a sociology class and the prof said he had to go out of town for two weeks but classes would resume when he got back. A few weeks later, I bumped into a friend who asked me why I dropped the class. Oh, oh. I hadn’t. I just forgot to go back. I made the next class & learned the mid-term would be given next class. I borrowed notes, read several hundred pages, took the mid-term and got a C. Luckily, grades were not based on attendance. I made every class after, though, got a research paper in, aced the final and came away with a B as my final grade. I was lucky.
