Lovely day shaping up. Enjoy it if you can. We drove, at 25mph, through Chicago rush hour traffic yesterday and didn’t get shot at once. There were plenty of insane, angry, drivers everywhere but it seemed to be a firearm free day. Maybe there is a bullet shortage. Supply chain thing.

There were a few sprinkles of rain this morning, now the sun is shining.
We have a gig this afternoon in North Liberty so that pretty much Takes care of the day.

Water falling out of the sky this am. We are supposed to get 1.5 to two inches through the weekend. The weather has definitely changed from summer heat to fall rains.
Last night I played a deeply meaningful and intellectually challenging folk song by Arlo. One of the things I like about folk music is it’s ability to spiritually speak deep truths. This is the one I’m talking about.

55° in Northern California - drizzle or raining. I'm barely good morning. I like in the evenings anyway. I'm recovering - the valve surgery - today and I think I'm going to work on Thursday or Friday or Monday Enjoy your days - pickers/old farts.
A normal day….

Good morning. This morning I am doing the final work on Russel's 1919 Martin 0-18. He brought it to me in late 2019 for a neck reset and in doing the work it became obvious that it would need a refret also. Problem being it had solid bar frets, very rare these days, but I did manage to find some new old stock bar wire. In the day this bar wire stock came in many sizes but since they quit making it 60 or more years ago sizes are limited and all I could find was the highest stock for the width I needed. I got the reset done right away and once I had the fret stock I got the frets in, we all know what happened to me in early 2020. after I got out of the hospital it took me months of therapy before I was strong enough to get down the stairs to my shop, it's still slightly difficult. Those frets were in need of a lot of filing to get them to working size. The bare stock was .158" high and the slots about .062" deep and that leaves .096 of fret sticking above the fingerboard. I like a fret height of about the .040 range meaning .056 needs to be removed. Before the hospital event I wasn't all that bothered by filing off that much fret, it would be a bit of work but I could deal with it. Once I got back down to my shop it was a whole different story, 5 minutes of filing had me totally worn out. In hindsight I could have asked for Terry's help but instead I trained my grandson Tyler to refret and once he was able to do a really good job, on my junkers or his own guitars, I put him to work on the Martin. I had done about half the frets but it took months, he got the to rough height in a few hours. Then I took over for the final level to working height and checking every fret fret to make sure it was seated properly. Bar frets come loose real easy. I also learned a bit of history when doing this job, modern diamond files are ok but I needed to use the old fashioned burr and triangular files to get those frets shaped properly. Those are the types of files I learned the trade with and still have unused for many years, until now, in my fret tool drawer. Now you know why I have drawers full of unused tools. And kudos to those that actually read through that boring tryst of pontification.

Loved every word and punctuation mark Marty!
We had a wonderful day of golf yesterday with two bandmates at Grey Eagle in Sauk Centre. Weather was spectacular. Good fellowship and enough good golf moments that everyone drove home happy.
Grey Eagle is a real sleeper. Championship design, perfect condition, public, and cheap.

A bizjet just flew over my place on final to St. Paul Downtown Airport. FlightAware reveals that it departed Bozeman, Mont., less than two hours ago.
Must be nice to have that kind of vehicle at your disposal.

Cozy here in my office watching the moisture develop outside - it is supposed to rain for the next 5 days, but I see a bit of sunshine. Maybe I should run out and get in it before it goes away.
Oil changed in the 4Runner, new wiper blades attached, new Grundens bib rain pants. I guess I am ready for winter.

All of this was news to me.
