Structured like a Bach prelude but full of pop & maj7 sensibility.

He's just great! I am no modernist, and so some of it is jarring to my stuffy old ears. I don't say it's heretical.
Did he write that, Evan?
Finally, where are the microphones? Or do you think he recorded it first and then dubbed the video? Gene?

Nice haircut.
Probably multiple takes on the video. Too many moving camera angles that would be tripping over each other. Maybe one of the takes was the live audio performance. But probably a separate audio recording with microphones in that room. Nice natural reverb in the room. Hard surfaces. But I think you'd want a good mic closer to the guitar to get the clarity. Though maybe the wide angle shot is the real take with microphones set back above or off screen. There's a lot of room in the sound.
He has no chin.

Several haircuts, I would say. I like the music.

While the Siccas recordings are heavily sweetened (way too much) I think most, if not all, are one-take.

California Suite is structured very much like a Bach suite. The individual pieces draw heavily from their Bach counterpart but the music itself is pop-oriented, jazzy. I like it. There's a recording of Russian phenom Irina Kulikova playing the whole suite live. The recording is meh but the performance is outstanding. I SO wish I could have caught her either in Dallas or Ft. Worth.

I have seen lutenists record in live halls (typically churches) with the microphone overhead and of course out of camera range.

Notice you do not see the multiple cameras also. While not off camera, you can hear how much a stereo pair can pick up in a lively room. This was many years ago at my daughter’s senior recital in the chapel on campus. This was the last piece of her hour long senior recital. This also, where you cannot see the microphones. I also used a stereo pair.

Ok, put on a good set of headphones. Yes, room mics and no noise reduction because a lot of subtle non musical extras in the recording.
That’s just technical stuff, nicely played and filmed.
Just re enforces the fact I should stick to building vs playing !

Those are great recordings, Gene. I was expecting something quite classical from your daughter but it sounds like a theater piece. And the Gargoyle ensemble is a knockout.

Gene, how did you suspend the mikes over the heads of the brass? I can't see the booms.
I envy your daughter's rich vibrato! Very nice.

The preceding hour was all classical but she absolutely loved the musical “The Light in the Piazza”. We actually went to see it live a few years before she graduated. This was her last piece and she asked permission to sing it. Her instructor said she could. While the music from the musical is quite challenging, the instrumental music is incredibly difficult. The accompanist was a phenomenal player. This piece is unbelievably difficult to play, but she told my daughter, thank you because she doesn’t get challenged often. Let’s just say she passed the recital After many discussions with her instructor who sung for Lyric Opera for many years, she did not pursue it any further and went on to get her masters in special education and teaches the children who are challenged as they say these days. She loves it and the kids and parents of the kids just adore her. I had the mics on a boom stand behind the cameras yet pointed at the band. AKG C414 stereo pair

The room is quite live. So my guess is a stereo pair just off camera or hung from the ceiling above. Notice you do not see the multiple cameras also. I think you're right. Though some of the in-close hand-held camera angles would conflict with each other. So I expect there was a full recording from distance, and then another take for some of the close in shots. You're the best
