I am still up, so I thought I'd start the daily. Lots of stuff running through my brain, pushing off sleep.
I'm thankful LJ's wife Barb's pacemaker implant went well. I'm also glad Matt was able to eulogize his friend in a way that truly honored him.
I read Peter's government participation post. I think it's a grand idea. I have some ideas on this, and they are not as lefty/communist as Bruce might think.
Both my mother and my mother-in-law are coming to visit tomorrow, one from PA and one from KS. They will be here through Sunday/Monday to see our daughter's band compete in the Bands of America Grand Nationals in Lucas Oil Stadium on Thursday (and Saturday if they do well on Thursday). Katharine plays marimba and is co-leader of the pit. She plays extremely well. If the band doesn't go on to a Saturday performance, the whole group of us will head down to West Baden/French Lick to see the grand hotels. They won't be decorated for Christmas yet, but that's OK. On Sunday my mother-in-law leaves, and my mother leaves on Monday.
The two have never met. They have two entirely different personalities. I have a feeling they will get along wonderfully.
There are shake-ups and potential changes on the work front. Whether or not they happen is far from certain, and the uncertainty is... unsettling. Whether things change or stay the same, I think I'd be happy either way. But if there's a new opportunity, will it be the right one? Will I make the right choice, if a choice is to be made? Is there even a right choice? Yes, I'm purposefully vague, even though I don't think anyone here or elsewhere cares how vague or specific I am. Oh well. You get the point.
So I'm awake.
Here's something to kick your day off right and get you moving. John Hammond Jr. on electric, David Lindley on oud, and the Five Blind Boys of Alabama on vocals.

I’m not even close go to sleep Adios Aloha No blunts for me, and a drink this late/early is out of the question. I have a meeting in a little over 6 hours, so somehow I need to be clear-headed. But relaxing music and meditation sounds like a good idea. Thanks, Bob.

Good luck, John. I hope it’s a good day. We both hit the sack early last night and we were asleep in about 10 seconds. We are awake early, but we both got plenty of sleep so that’s ok. I hope everyone has an enjoyable day.

No, more of the same (exotic animal caretaker from Colorado, for anyone reading this who's monitoring my movements), but the view out the window and town of employment would change. Still local, though.

I read Peter's government participation post. I think it's a grand idea. I have some ideas on this, and they are not as lefty/communist as Bruce might think. Thank you very much for that. Most of the time that these things happen, they involve a limited regulated population (like semi-trucks in my last incarnation). But this one hits everyone at some level and everyone should take advantage of the learning opportunity. I'd like to request that the post be pinned, at least for the next 26 days or more while we all wait to see how it is resolved. I also posted it as a Facebook challenge if anyone would be interested in helping it go viral by sharing the post (long shot I know, but not an incredibly demanding task). Any other questions will be answered in as unbiased fashion as I can muster.

John B, good luck. I think we always worry about whether we're making the right choice at some fork in the road. Even when I've made the wrong one, though, things usually worked out all right.
Good morning, everyone. A friend's coming over for outdoor coffee in a while. That's a lot of my socializing these days. My wife and I will go to the downtown library later. Enjoy your day.

Friends from Scottsdale are probably already on their way here, maybe a 2 1/2 hour drive. I had to give some serious thought to what one does when one is about to have company. The house is clean. The patio furniture is clean and the patio swept. They're bringing lunch because one of them has food allergies, but I have drinks ready. We haven't seen them in over two years, so the visit will be too short.

Typical Wednesday for me, the toughest workload of the week, and we have a colleague on vacation, so it's even heavier lifting, but the carrot at the end of the stick is a new cafe that has opened north of here, and looks very promising. A BLT made with Nueske's bacon may be in the cards for lunch.

Good luck, John. LJ, glad to hear things went well yesterday.
Rain is on it's way for this evening, lots of rain. And cold coming with snow in the air on Friday. It's pretty much been Indian Summer since September 1st, so I guess I shouldn't complain.

Roosters are crowing, and it’s just beginning to get light out. Coffee is being consumed. Fresh papaya awaits.

I hate to sound like a broken record, but, due to my lack of self control, I'm back at the Family Restaurant. Nuff said
