Good morning. It's always good to have another day. "Forget most, remember some, but don't turn none away."
Younger daughter arrives tomorrow for a Thanksgiving visit and I need to do some cleaning in preparation. It'll be 50s-70s here. Pleasant.
Enjoy your day.

Breakfast and then we heading to the pacemaker dept at the hospital for Barb’s first post-op check. After that they will use the bedside remote to check things. Modern medicine, huh? Her old pacemaker is in the Medical Antiquities Museum in Floyds Knobs, IN so the locals can see it and marvel about how far we have come.

I assumed her old pacemaker would be in the "coming attractions" section of the museum.

Music practice this afternoon, better tidy up the house a little bit. Cold out this morning, but no snow so I'll take it.

Finishing up a neck reset on an early 50's Kay Sherwood archtop. Solid top, laminated sides. Longest scale length of any guitar I have seen. 25 3/4" Speaking of pacemakers, I worked for a heart surgeon for a year before I started my Ortho residency in 1972. We did a lot of pacemakers. This is what they looked like then. Massive! Patients had to carry a counterweight in their opposite shirt pocket to walk straight The blue thing is the magnet that was used to reset switches through the skin. It was really strong. I used to take extras home for the fridge and the kids to play with. One night I came home and our little TV screen looked like a tie dyed shirt. The kids had been trying to stick the magnets to the screen.

Strangest thing happened last evening -- I went to run an errand, got in the car and started it, but it died almost immediately, then would not start again. I tried three fairly long cranks. I smelled fuel, so I just decided to leave things alone, as the errand was not essential. Hoping it was just some electronic glitch, maybe having to do with the relay that requires you to have your foot on the brake to start the engine. If it doesn't fire up today, not sure what I'll do.
Maybe the ol' girl is just going through motorpause.

I've seen that. Check the fritzler valve Bill. Duh, Terry -- that was the first thing I checked.

The carburetor is hidden under the fuel injectors, though.

Terry--Is that Dean Severson's Kay? It is Russ! It actually sounds pretty good, has a straight neck with no truss rod, and sets up well. It's a cool guitar, would be a good rhythm instrument which I would assume it was made to be. I have cut a hole in the top and put neck humbuckers in some of those old cheap 50's archtops that had a good neck and could be set up properly. They sound good and have a lot of gigging mojo for the bearded plaid shirt Americana crowd. Another reversible option is the Lace Ultra Thin humbucker (https://www.bluestarmusic.com/Lace-Ultra-Slim-Acoustic-Sensor-National-Resonator-Guitar-Pickup-Chrome_p_917.html) that I have just double stick taped to a contoured mounting plate on the top. Sounds pretty good and since everything is just taped on is completely reversible. Here is one in a 30's Regal with the owner playing it.

Be a shame to cut into a solid top when there are other options. I had a '45 L7 that had a Dobro-style pickup similar to the Lace. Can't remember the brand--it was a recognizable name, black plastic housing--but it sounded very good and was slim enough to fit at the end of the fingerboard. I have a 1960s Rowe/DeArmond single-coil with adjustable polepieces that could be rigged for that guitar--I'll ask Dean if he'd like to have you install it as a floater of some kind. (It was warehouse NOS, probably intended for use on an electric version of a guitar very like that Harmony. Its twin is on the Crandall.) It looks like this, though mine originally had mounting ears.

(Irrelevantly), I have never seen the film The Princess Bride. I have decided to remedy that omission. Maybe this evening?

Went to the store and braved the cold weather and the crowd. Home and cosy now. Either fish tacos or tempeh with rice noodles, baby bok choy, bean sprouts and cucumbers. The other for tomorrow. Have good ones.

The carburetor is hidden under the fuel injectors, though. We’ll, put the comb in your blender and inject the slurry into the injectors then.

Well, I got my car to start, but it sure didn't fire right up -- I went for a little drive and it seemed to behave normally and no warning lights came on or anything so I just came home and parked it. I guess I will try one more time this evening, but if it's still acting up tomoro, I might be staying home for Thanksgiving.
