I just got off the phone with Barb, Don Clark's wife. She says to please relate the news to the Soundhole. We are such a large part of his life. He has so many friends here. To make a long story short he has been moved to hospice in their home; his family is with him, and he is in the process of shutting down.
There is no such thing as good news in any of this, but there is some heartening news: A whole bunch of acoustic guitar players came to the house today en masse today and spent quite a bit of time playing for Don. Those of us who have met or know him can understand how much that means to him. He has touched many lives, and is in the thoughts and prayers of more people than we'll ever know.

Oh, NO. This just brings me way down. I've been worried that Don's health was going in this direction but we've kept up prayers and hope.
Very sad.

This is terrible news.
Whatever happens, I know Don will face it with grace.

Very sorry to hear this. We had dinner with Don and Barbara and a couple of his kids some years back. Fine people all. I wish him and them peace.

So very sad to read this. He has been through so much over the years. I have always admired the positive way he faced it all. We are keeping Don and his family in our thoughts.

Thanks for the update. Don faced so many massive health crises with such amazing grace and positivity.
I was certainly privileged to have had a chance to meet him at IJ.

I didn't really know Don, but you who did have my sympathies... I know it hurts. Good recording, Gene. Sounds like Don had the sense of timing I love: right on the nose, but elastic enough to let a piece breathe. He played with evident feeling, too, but without excess sentimentality. Just right.

This is incredibly sad. We have had the privilege of knowing Don as a fine musician and as a husband and father.
I will never forget the night at the Hitchin’ Post when he played a fingerpicking tune with Josh and the entire bar fell silent.

Don worked up a remarkable arrangement of "Over the Rainbow," which kind of became his signature piece. He played it at Swannanoa Guitar Week Open Mic (I was not there, regrettably), and then owing to his health issues had to skip a year or two.
When he was finally able to return to Swannie after his transplant, on open-mic night he announced that he was determined to play something else, "but then had a change of heart."
I just love that.

I am so very sorry to hear this. I never met Don, but we talked a few times on the phone. He seemed a very nice and genuine guy. My heart goes out to his family.
