Last Friday evening I had a big bowl of my homemade vegetable soup, soup that was loaded with onion. By the time I went to bed the bloating had started, and I was suffering, but not nearly as much as I would be on Saturday. Saturday night I had my phone ready, trying to decide if I should call 911. I either went to sleep or passed out and the call didn't get made.
Sunday, Was bad but on Monday I thought I noticed a slight improvement. Finally, yesterday afternoon I ate a few saltines, 3 to be exact, and I had a little plain yogurt.
Today I've increased my food intake to include a little bread and Turkey breast. Now, 4:30 PM and I suddenly felt like I was hungry!! I've probably consumed less tha 500 calories in the past 6 day, so an exciting advancement.
I'm thinking now now that I will survive, but I'm absolutely sure I don't ever want to eat onions again.

What made you think it was the onions? If you’ve eaten this soup before, it would indicate that either something has changed in you, or something was wrong with the soup?
Good that you’re feeling better, at least. Doesn’t sound like a good time.

Whenever a recipe calls for an entire onion, like most recipes do, I use half. Half an onion looks like a whole lot going into an empty pot to simmer.
Onions or not, good you're feeling better, Paleo.

Did you have cabbage and tomatoes in it. Was it cooked in a aluminum pot.these 3 items can cause a chemical reaction.

Good that you’re feeling better, at least. Doesn’t sound like a good time. My dad was sensitive to onions, when I was young I could eat onions like apples. As I've got older I've become sensitive, this isn't the first time this has happened (guess I'm a slow learner).

Those are all signs of a heart attack. Ok, it was probably most certainly the onions, especially if you have a history with onions. But, to repeat, those are classic signs of a heart attack. There are small ones, not all will put you down.
If the onion reaction doesn't fully wash with you, or things don't seem quite up to snuff the next day or so, I recommend checking in with your doc.
Don't mean to cause unnecessary worry, but... it would be shame to waste a relatively benign warning sign that leaves you still standing. No harm in seeing a doc...
Which I am not.

Onion sensitivity is a weird but real thing. Both my Father in law and wife cannot eat raw onions or they throw up. But cooked are fine. Go figure. Me? I like onions in all their forms.

Epaul said,

I swear I thought the next word epaul was going to write was "onion." I was all set to say "what do you mean 'relatively'?" I'm sorry to laugh, but it's just too funny.
Get well soon.

Food allergies and sensitivities can be deadly. I have nephews who have peanut allergies and they carry Epi pens with them. Barb has a terrible allergy to ginger that has put her in the hospital more than once. We always check at restaurants because ginger is one of those things that gets used a lot. No Thai or Japanese restaurants for us. You will find no ginger in my house. We have to be especially careful at Thanksgiving because a lot of people use ginger in pumpkin pie. Our rule is, if we didn’t bake it, we don’t eat it. It works out because I hate ginger anyway.

It works out because I hate ginger anyway. The horror. I mean, I don’t eat pumpkin pie anyways. But Japanese, Chinese, Korean, Thai foods? Ah……
