Time for the daily. (my metronome says so) Winter can be tantalizing:

The older I get, the earlier I get up which leads to earlier bedtime which leads to getting up earlier. At this rate, I will soon be going to bed at 4 and getting up at midnight. It’s a vicious circle. At least my pants are well below my armpits. So far. Have a nice, warm breakfast.

Currently 45° in New York, with a predicted high of 49°. Lightly raining, will be cloudy all day. Taking the young'un to the Museum of natural History this morning, to see an exhibit on sharks—her favorite sea creature. Timed tickets, proof of vaccination, photo ID required. We decided to double-mask because wtf not?
This year seems to have whizzed by, hasn't it?

Another muggy day in the 80's.
We are off to our camp today to escape the New Year's Eve madness. Hate that holiday with a passion.
For your troubles, enjoy this!

Still dark here. At least the days are starting to get longer. Another three months and maybe we will get some sunlight,
It’s warming up here faster than the weather dudes thought, no snow this am as it’s already 30, heading to 40 or so. Debating on whether to make a Costco run this am. I want to pick up some bay shrimp for shrimp louies, and maybe a bottle of bubbly to ring in the new year and go to bed by ten, yep, we are party animals.

A balmy 23 degrees, but heavy clouds and a gloomy look.
At 1:00 I'm taking the truck in for a check up, I think all it needs is new windshield wipers. I'll also stop at the grocery store and pick up a few things to have on hand for Saturday's snow storm.

Good morning
12F and overcast.
I'm hoping I don't have to go anywhere today.

Elderdottir and her mom got caught in the Sun Country nightmare yesterday, sat at their gate at MSP for hours and eventually watched their onboard crew depart the plane and exit the terminal, flight canceled. Our family friend drove over and picked them up for another overnight at her house -- they'll try again today.
On a positive note, my electronic picture frame is so cool! Overnight, Yungerdottir sent it some more photos of the grand-nuggets, and herself, and there they are this morning. Clarity is excellent.
On edit, they are on the plane and will be taking off shortly, whew!

Spooky quiet. Chicago crew left last night. They reported I-94 as being glare ice between here and St Cloud with lots of cars in the ditch. If it gets above my threshold of 10 degrees and the sun peeks out I may venture out on skinny skis or snowshoes. Trails are apparently groomed and tracked. Snow is awesome. The kids were trying on my Stetson. Not everyone looks good in a cowboy hat. One of them owned it.

Currently -1F, which will be the high for the day, our last warm day for awhile. By tomorrow, the expected high will be -14. And the low tomorrow night is expected to be -20, kicking off a four days stretch during which the temperature will not climb above 0. Just like the good old days.
We had a ten day stretch in '96 that never got above 0, which is the record in my record keeping (there may have been a several week stretch back in the 1800's, but I wasn't there, so it's not in my phenology book. (I was driving school bus in '96, and it was a hell of a winter with a couple lows hitting -50 and twenty-plus days of -10 or colder)

My wife's sister tested positive for covid yesterday. She went through Chemo last year and has a poor immune system but no serious symptoms so far. My wife just got a call from the optometrist she visited yesterday: he tested positive for covid. We are all boosted but my wife has scarred lungs. Fingers crossed. Day 4 of vacation. The little bit of home fix-it work I have done has made me sore, but if that is the worst that happens on my vacation, I will count myself lucky.

Untypically mild here. About 16/60° earlier. Bit rainy too. Predicted to stay like that for the next week and more. Heard a slow tap...tap...tap noise when in bed last night. It was small, leaky roof raindrops falling on the back of a guitar. Teejus!

Warm and stormy here.
Wife and son tested positive for COVID. Thankfully, they have only mild symptoms. I tested negative (thanks, booster!). As a reward for being the only COVID-negative person currently in the household, I have been exiled to the finished basement until their isolation period passes. At least it is nice down here. I have my own bathroom, and a comfy couch and big TV, and my music room is down here.
It does not make up for being separated from my family, but I am just remembering to be grateful that no-one is very sick.

Tracking Elderdottir's flight back to AVL -- they are scootin' right along at 590 mph at 39,000 feet. Tailwinds are fun!

I'm sure you could have done without their getting infected, Shannon, but I'm glad the symptoms are mild.

Sorry to read of their test results, Shannon, but I hope their symptoms remain mild. Enjoy this time in your man cave and stay safe yourself.
