Looking forward to Whiting’s World Famous Pierogi Drop Countdown tonight. New Year’s Eve without pierogi is like shoes without socks. Here is a video from 2019 to give a hint of what’s to come. It’s hard to see in the video, but the pierogi drops into a large, steaming pot. Yum.

Up. We're headed out with friends tonight. Being a stick in the mud, I'd rather stay home.

NYE show cancelled due to COVID. Disappointed as you can imagine but musically it has been a terrific year for me and I am thankful for that. Lots of establishments in Milwaukee cancelling NYE gatherings.
Scott is taking the plunge into Lake Michigan tomorrow at noon with the "Polar Bears" of the 128th Air National Guard, so we do have that to look forward to this New Year's holiday. I will happily cheer him on while standing on the shore wearing my parka, boots, long underwear, ear muffs etc., etc., etc., while holding a hot cup of coffee. Scott suggested I join him in taking the plunge. Say what? Ya gotta be kidding? Maybe next year...maybe?
Happy New Year, everyone!!!

We get together with friends every NYE. Except this will be the 2nd year in a row by Zoom. **bummer**
Temps should be nice enough out today to play some outdoor pickleball. Tomorrow the snow and cold returns with a vengeance.

Up. Too early. We have a Dunginess and some bay shrimp for a seafood salad feast tonight. And some unknown Italian bubbly. It’s just me the wife and the Dachschund. Probably be in bed by ten. Happy New Year’s Eve, I hope 22 is better than 21.

Port and snacks are on hand for this evening. We will even stay up past 9 PM so we can watch the East Coast celebrations. Tomorrow's neighborhood potluck and games are cancelled. Because Covid. The host was exposed and may have it. But it will only hit 49F tomorrow and we've had a third of an inch of rain so far today, so that outdoor event probably wouldn't have happened anyway. The mountain peaks are covered with snow, which we'll be able to see if it's not foggy after the sun comes up. Black eye peas will be consumed tomorrow night. Not my tradition, but I'm married to a Texan. In spite of, or maybe because of, the rain, we're planning a trip to Costco today. Maybe it won't be too crowded. Maybe they'll have most of the things on our list.
Happy 2022 to all.

Good morning
18F right now and temps will be dropping later after a high of 24F or so. Tomorrows temps will be on the -minus side. We are still well stocked and don't really need to go anywhere and with these low temps it's best to just stay home.
Time for some breakfast and a shower before heading down to the shop.

Walked up the hill at the camp to retrieve messages. The woods are full of hunters.

I'll be searing some cow flesh, baking potatoes, and whipping up a salad for my bride and myself this evening. The child is a vegetarian, so a separate dish will be prepared for her.
Well, we got through another plague year, and we are now in the sixteenth year of this forum's existence.
Sending best wishes to everyone and their families for health, peace, and prosperity in 2022. Remember: tomorrow's another day.

Morning. Another 3” of snow last night and still coming down. I worked a few hours this week and had a small crew that wanted to work but for the most part have had the week off. Been nice.
Since all we have are pick up trucks we bought a very clean 2015 Honda Pilot with 100K miles last week. More nimble for trips to town and better MPG. So far so good.

Staying home. Had planned an evening with friends but a possible COVID exposure and age/comorbidity issues axed it.
On a positive note I got a good snowshoe workout in yesterday and temps may favor a skinny ski outing today.
We watched a couple of great football games last night. Michigan State? Wow!
Addendum - looks like a high of -3. Think I’ll opt for the Nordic Track.

Since we are talking food, we have lobster tail, Gulf shrimp, baked potatoes, ciabatta, salad, & bubbly on hand. We will watch a movie or, perhaps, 10-12 murders in Midsomer, where the population has to be dwindling.

I have a very exciting day planned. Go to the pharmacy for a refill on one of my meds. Go for a hike in the snow and make up several pans of my chicken noodle casserole. The casserole, if that's what it is, is delicious. It's noodles, cream of mushroom soup, pepper bacon, herb and garlic feta cheese, cheddar and parmesan cheese layered in a pan and then baked. I'll make 3 pans, freeze 2 and eat the 3rd pan over the next couple days. Oh, I might try to stay up till 11:00 tonight to see the ball drop in NYC, then again I may not.
Edit. I just finished frying up 2 lbs of pepper bacon and when I saw the cans of chicken breast on the counter I remembered that I forgot to mention it. Each pan of the casserole will have about 15 oz of chicken breast in it.

Running out later today to pick up some oysters. That was an exotic surprise from Melva's side of the family. She grew up on casseroles and jello with shredded cabbage, and out of the blue comes this family tradition of oyster stew for New Years. Of course, being Illinois farmers, it was bland canned oysters in warm milk, but still. We're improved the recipe.
Tomorrow is a bluegrass brunch.

The Sunday night Vikes-Packers game at Lambeau should be a tad chilly.

Good morning. New Year's Eve and Day have always filled me with complete indifference. We usually get together with the same couple for an early dinner but he's recovering from a bad bout of Covid and she's not vaccinated so that won't happen. All I know is that I'll be in bed by 9:00. Have a good day.

Maybe we should get off your lawn, too?
