I slept through all the hoopla. I figured it would go on whether I was awake or not. It seems it did. May 2022 be better than 2021. Who knows? Life is a crap shoot.

Big snow day ahead, so the prognosticators say.
Have a good year.

It's 11-below zero here, 24-below where TerryK lives, 29-below where ePaul lives.
But it's a dry cold. Boy, IS it -- I woke up around 4 for one of my obligatory bafroom breaks, and my throat was so sore I could hardly swallow. So, invoking the soul and spirit of my late mother, I trundled into the kitchen and gargled about 12 ounces of warm salt water, one glug after another, a treatment that Mom ordered for almost all of our youthful maladies, even compound leg fractures.
Damned if it didn't work, at least enough to allow me to fall back asleep. Today, I think I will apply a household technique employed by Mom's mom -- having a big vessel of water simmering away to moisten the air. Grandma Joern had a big crockery vase that she set upon one of their steam radiators, which my domicile lacks, but a water-filled stock pot on the range should do the trick.
Nappy Who Here!

It is 37 here right now. Alexa says there is a 38% chance of snow at 10 AM. I am hoping the storm goes where people who love snow live. Somewhere far away. I could not live in MN. Those who do are hearty individuals.

A balmy -9 here this morning; the river valley tempers a lot of the harsh weather Bill gets in the city. It should be up around 0 tomorrow so I'll probably get out on the skinny skis with our daughter.
We celebrated Nova Scotia New Years last night (10:00 local time) and went to bed.

From the Superior, Wis., paper 100 years ago. Guess the Roaring '20s had not reached northern Sconnie yet.
New Year's Eve parties in Superior ended abruptly at midnight last night when police, acting under orders from headquarters, closed all dance halls and clubs. The orders were issued on the basis of a city ordinance prohibiting dancing after midnight on Saturdays.

Happy 2022
-10 here and sunny.
We stayed up past midnight.
I was trying to update my post on Facebook about humidity. I kept hitting some unknown key, maybe the page key, and deleting everything I had written so far. After 3 attempts I quit. I'll try again later.
Being it's Saturday I'd be headed for the shop but being New Year's Day and cold as the gates of Hades I'm in no hurry.

(CNN) Wrap up warm if you're heading to Target Field in Minneapolis -- home of MLB's Minnesota Twins -- for the 2022 Winter Classic on Saturday. The NHL has staged 32 modern outdoor games, but Saturday's match between the Minnesota Wild and the St. Louis Blues may be the coldest yet, with sub-zero temperatures forecast. The high temperature on Saturday is only supposed to reach -2 degrees, but it will be even colder when the game begins at 7 p.m. ET with a frozen temperature of -5 and the wind chill hovering around -20 degrees. And it could go down as the coldest outdoor NHL hockey game in history if those temperatures pan out. So much so that the National Hockey League says even the ice will need to be heated. "When the air temperature is above the optimum ice temperature, the glycol and aluminum pans transfer heat away from the ice. But when the air temperature is below the optimum ice temperature, it transfers heat to the ice," said NHL.com. "The NHL has used a custom-made inline heater before to warm the glycol in the pipes on the way to the floor, but here it will use two inline heaters for the first time, one at the refrigeration truck and another in the outfield. The crew can calibrate the temperature to a half-degree." Meanwhile the NHL has announced the postponement of nine additional games, eight of those due to attendance restrictions in Canada. The NHL postponed nine other Canadian games for the same reason earlier this week.

Happy New Year. Here it dawned clear, cold and breezy after a week of showers. We got the tail edge of the cold front that's affecting Colorado, the plains and the upper Midwest. We'll get a freeze tonight and I need to cover a few things.
I hadn't planned to be awake at midnight. I'd forgotten that a few years back, our legislature legalized fireworks and prohibited cities and towns from restricting their use. A little before midnight I awoke to what sounded like a battle erupting nearby. It was still going on at 12:40 at which point, happily, it started raining.
Enjoy your day.

Well I didn't see the new year arrive, but I did see the ball drop, close enough. Looks like the big snow storm is tracking a little bit farther south. That changes the snow predictions here from 4-7 inches down to 1-4 inches.
Happy New Year everyone!

Good morning. It's currently 53°F in new York, gray, and rainy. We haven't seen much sunshine for at least 8 days.
Dinner was pleasant last night, the Delmonico rib-eye we shared was cooked perfectly, and the neighborhood lit up with fireworks at 12:00, courtesy of our neighbors (the official display over the park was canceled). The girls stayed up later than I did.
Just whipped up some scrambled cheesy eggs and toast for them, had coffee, and we may be off to shop for a table for my daughter's new sewing machine that belonged to her great grandmother (on her mother's side), courtesy of my MIL. We had it rewired, new drive belt, new light, and a clean, lube, and adjust by this terrific place far from us in Kings County that picks it up from your home, calls with an estimate, and delivers it back to your door when the work is finished. Total time: 24 hours. And it comes with a 1-year warranty on parts and labor. Incredible. Now all she needs is a couple of sewing classes and she has promised to fashion me a new suit.
It's Saturday. I don't have to work. 💥
