I might try this. I have acrylics at the moment and the transition might be tricky? Any others here tried ping pong balls?

Never tried it. Looks promising.. I am curious as to what happens when they grow out half way. Or perhaps the glue gives up before then.

That was what I wondered too David. I've only got as far as thinking that Clive Carroll and Will McNicol seem to make the method work for them so it might be worth asking one of them.

This technique has been around for a long time, though when I first came across it in the 1960s it used plain old superglue rather than nail glue--though they're both basically cyanoacrylate.
McNichol's nails are what I think of as flamenco length--I play with nails and don't let mine get anywhere that long, since there's no way of getting any flesh on the string. (I would also be afraid I'd poke myself in the eye.)

I've used 'em on my thumbnail. Much better sound than acrylics, IMO.
But only in a pinch. I'm sure if you've used acrylics you know that keeping them on has a deleterious effect on the underlying nail. Same thing here.
Use the Day-Glo yellow or orange balls. It'll add color to your tone...

Yeesh. I learned how to play guitar so I could meet women, not talk about my fingernails.

I mostly meet women in nail bars these days.

I tried that using rubber balls but my fingers kept bouncing off the strings.

I don't play any music that would require long fingernails. I keep my right index finger slightly longer than the tip of my finger but that's it. No need for any reinforcement. If I ever get serious about plucked chord-melody stuff, I may have to think about this.

I’m thinking that if you plug a tele into a decent amp, you don’t havevto worry about your nails.

The one with a dab of nail polish on it is the index fingerpick. You fit them once and use them for 40 years. I prefer a clear Dobro thumb pick but they quit making them 35+ years ago. I have two left and I keep them in a lockbox. I wish I could find some.
