A giant of English folk and a lovely, kind, formidable and delightful woman who was friendly and generous with her time at gigs. ETA - I was once at a big concert at a large London venue (The Barbican), when Norma and Martin Carthy and their daughter Eliza were amongst those on the bill. Shuffling with a friend through the throng at the bar during an interval, Norma had somehow spotted and recognised us from the balcony quite a distance away. She waved and came down to say hello. You could have knocked me down with a feather. We'd only talked for a little while and she hadn't seen us for perhaps a year. We'd been chatting with her about Grateful Dead songs amongst other things during the interval at a local folk club where she and Martin were playing. www.theguardian.com/music/2022/jan/31/norma-waterson-was-one-of-folks-greatest-voices-and-greatest-peopleA longer tribute with a Spotify playlist. - www.folkradio.co.uk/2022/01/tribute-norma-waterson/

I'm a bit teary. It is doubtless in part because my mum, who incidentally also enjoyed Norma just died. We cremated her on Friday. We loved her.

Oh James. Some voice had be come back to this thread so I read the news. I'm sorry to hear this. You've spoken of her here several times and it's beyond obvious that she was quite a woman.
