Why were 40 people in Golden Corral in the first place? Some sort of sickly love for really bad food?

I hate buffet restaurants, lousy food and rarely hot, always under staffed, unsupervised kids running everywhere, rude people and I'm NOT going to eat 3 plates of food plus dessert so why bother. If my girls say we are going to Golden Coral or Old Country Buffet I tell them to have fun I'll order a pizza.
Exception: Some of the buffets at the Casinos are pretty good.

The Golden Corral here in Plainfield closed at the beginning of the pandemic and has never reopened. I don't do buffets anymore with the occasional exception of a local Chinese place.
Most restaurants serve such large portions that I get all I can eat by ordering off the menu, often with leftovers for lunch the next day.
Edit: On one of the rare occasions I have been in a Golden Corral I saw a young kid drop both a dinner roll and the tongs he was using. He picked up both and put them back on the counter. Only one small example of the unhygienic incidents that occur at buffets.

The two appetizer strategy can be used to avoid large portions. Have one of them served with the mains.

He picked it up and put it back, and keeping cleanliness in mind used the tongs to do so.

What do you expect them to do? I mean they were out of steak. And I'll bet the soft serve machine was out of order. Perfectly understandable

Looked like a racial thing. One side is black. The other white.
I was disappointed that no food was thrown. Every once in a while, in my fraternity days, on a friday afternoon after attending the bars in the afternoon, a food fight would break out in the fraternity dining hall. Especially when creamed-golf-ball-potatoes were served. They explode when they hit a wall or a person. - All in good fun.

Someone once described buffets like Old Country Bucket as places where food brings no pleasure.

I have never been to a Golden Country Corral Buffet. I have gone to the buffet at Four Winds Casino in New Buffalo, MI because it was free. That one was pretty nice but I saw a lot of people eating enough for three.

In Sconnie and Minne back in the day, we had Jolly Troll Smorgasbord buffets, with creepy animatronic trolls.

You can’t be serious? Mike He is. They are always short on the nightly featured entrée and the soft serve machine never worked from day one. Then the remedy is to not patronize the restaurant. It’s not to start fighting with other patrons. And I wouldn’t expect support for violence over crappy food from a ordained minister. Mike

Mike—Five minutes in the penalty box for personal foul: "And I wouldn’t expect support for violence over crappy food from a ordained minister." That post would have been just as effective if it ended after the word "patrons."
