CRAP!

12:15am Cheri heard a noise out front and looked out to see her car and another one drive away, she called the Police. They are coming by to take the report but are already on the lookout for the car. Been hearing several Police cars with sirens running around the neighborhood, maybe chasing her car because we were able to report it before they got very far away.
Hopefully they will find it before the converter, air bags and any other valuable parts are stripped. It's a lease car so fully insured.

Seems like there should be a carmaker's build-in to make that impossible in this day and age.

DAMN!
It doesn't matter how well it is insured, dealing with even the most reasonable insurance companies is a headache.
I hope you get it back unharmed, then get it detailed to remove the stench of thieves.

The crappiness is exacerbated by the fact that car prices are skyrocketing as supply is low. Hope you get it back and don't have to try to replace it.

Oh no! That sucks Marty. David Roos had the catalytic converter stolen from his car not too long ago.

Particularly if you don't give much of a damn about dash panels and pretty pieces like that. Grab it, strip it, and leave the hulk as a homeless shelter. If it's how you make a living, you're done by the end of the day.

Tired this morning as the Police did not give us a case number until after 2am.
The car was locked and she keeps nothing in it. Since it is a lease she has it cleaned inside on a regular basis.
They didn't find it last night so it will show up within a few days parked somewhere out of the way where they could strip the parts they want and walk away. Since we know they want the catalytic converter they won't move it once that is taken out. The air bags are valuable too, maybe some engine parts. Anything they can take quickly.

What the hell??? Is it still easy to hot-wire a car? Seems like there should be a carmaker's build-in to make that impossible in this day and age. Here's an article about one way that it can be done by using a sneaky device. What a PITA Marty! heycar.co.uk/guides/which-cars-are-prone-to-keyless-car-crimeEdit - The article could be better edited. One line refers to "any vehicle that has both keyless theft and keyless entry" and presumably means "any vehicle that has both keyless start and keyless entry".

Some ignition locks came be punched out and turned with nothing more than a large screwdriver. Don't know if they broke the window, used a Jimmy or just levered the door open. They may have electronic devices these days to fool the key fob and keep the alarm from going off.
They can get $100 or more per air bag, a air bag will cost you $400. Don't know what converters go for but enough to make it worth their time. These parts usually go to dishonest car repair places that but the parts cheap from thieves. Then they charge the customer for new parts and use the stolen parts for the repair.
