It came through Cedar Rapids. Lots of rain, tornado watch, now passed. High winds coming later.

I noted brief thunder and lightning here about an hour ago, odd for this time of year, but all is well now. Hope the same can be said for Iowa.

At least one tornado hit the northwest of Vinton. Don’t know what time yet. I assume it was prior to Bob’s report but don’t know for sure.

The videos I've seen show what looks like a pretty bad tornado. Scary stuff.

We had high winds & thunderstorms briefly last night. We saw videos of a huge tornado on the ground in Iowa near Des Moines. I hope damage was light in the Vinton area.
Reports say Winterset, IA was badly hit. They report 6 fatalities and some are children. There are videos up.

So scary and sad. And I've seen nothing on the news yet. It seems to be overshadowed by world events.

The deaths in Iowa were miles from Vinton, fortunately none in Vinton. The are hit was close to the American Legion; some of you may remember the fish fry there several years ago.
That’s about three miles as the crow flies from my house. When the warning came it was dead silent, i stepped outside and there was no rain or wind. Tornadoes are very strange.

I just went to town to get some softener salt, and the traffic where the tornado was looks like a parade route. Leave those people alone and let them work. Plus, wouldn’t you think you would be driving over a nail or two driving through that stuff?

Oh, man, this is so awful:
Associated Press
Four of the seven people killed in devastating storms that tore through central Iowa were members of the same family who had sought shelter inside a home that was razed by a powerful tornado, authorities said.
Two children, their father and their grandmother all died when a tornado hit the grandmother’s home near rural Winterset on Saturday afternoon, Madison County Sheriff Jason Barnes told television station KCCI.
The children and their parents, from Blue Springs, Missouri, were visiting their grandmother, Melissa Bazley, 63, when the tornado hit. The storm killed Bazley, 37-year-old Michael Bolger and two of his three young children, 5-year-old Kenley Bolger and 2-year-old Owen Bolger.
A GoFundMe page for the family says Kuri Bolger, who is the children’s mother and Bazley’s daughter, was hospitalized after being seriously injured. Other members of the family who had sought shelter in the home’s pantry also were injured.
Two others killed in the tornado — Rodney Clark, 64, and Cecilia Lloyd, 72 — lived in homes just down the street from Bazley that were also hit by the tornado. It was rated an EF-4, with peak winds of 170 mph (274 kph), the National Weather Service said Monday. The tornado was on the ground for nearly 70 miles (113 kilometers), leaving the longest path of destruction since a 1984 tornado that carved a path 117 miles (188 kilometers) long.
The seventh death came from Lucas County, about 54 miles (87 kilometers) southeast of Des Moines, when a separate tornado struck less than an hour later, injuring several other people. Officials there said Monday that Jesse Theron Fisher, 40, died in the storm and another area resident remained hospitalized. The state Department of Natural Resources said that Fisher was in an RV at a campground at Red Haw State Park near Chariton when the storm struck.

As Todd said, damage on the NW side of Vinton, we had no damage of any kind. Did have to dig out this morning so that is now a thing! Crazy weather! We dug out from the snow that fell over night.

Unfortunately, we are familiar with tornado damage and death around here. They are strange, amazing, and terrifying storms.
We are entering our typical severe-weather season down here, and may in fact see some this week.
I'm glad my forum buddies are safe!
