Jan, OMG. So your surge protector didn't do what it was supposed to do? It was supposed to protect your appliances. I am so sorry this happened at what has been a very happy time for you. The electrician said it would have been a lot worse had we not had the surge protector. I did not lose my washer/dryer. My neighbors did. The electrician did install a much larger surge protector and also suggested we put individual surge protection on each circut of the major appliances, i.e., refrigerator, AC etc. Sigh..... The good news is that I did not lose any of my musical electronics nor my art machines and lights. I ALWAYS unplug them when I am finished using them. Hope you can get it all worked out, Jan. Good luck.

Coincidentally those whole house surge protectors came up in conversation with my wife just a couple weeks ago. Looks like I'll be able to talk her into one when we get back from Michigan this weekend. Maybe I'll get lucky and be able to do it myself (from what I've read, that shouldn't be impossible). And when we do, I'll make sure to upsize it substantially. Only want to go round with it once. Electrical utilities in the midwest and west have been warning about expected power failures this summer (thanks, Green New Deal). Better get on it now. So sorry to hear about this, Jan. Hope it works out in the end.

Although, he believes the small one we had most likely saved the furnace and washer/dryer. My hope is that the new larger one will protect all of the appliances (and smaller household items of which we lost quite a few) should this happen again.

On route 72 the Hills and Halls live next door to each other. No, Hell is not the next house over. Also on route 72 the Kitchs are only one house away from the Sinks. What would make it perfect is if the Chans move in between them.
