100° is right. I don’t know what we’re going to do with these camp kids today way too hot to have them outside for several hours as planned.

We had a hell of a storm rumble through last evening. 85 mph winds recorded at O'Hare. And our house was right in line with that part of the storm. The crazy thing is it lasted that strong for an hour by us. When it popped up I was at a grandson's baseball game. Sirens went off. we bolted for our cars before the downpour began. Then I drove 10 miles home through the storm. I don't think I've ever seen it so black as night during the day light. I could hardly see the road in front of me. It was familiar territory so I kept slowly moving along.
When we got home a half hour later it wasn't any better. I looked out the windows of the Great Room and have never seen the trees move so violently. We went and sat in a hallway away from the windows for 20 minutes.
Two of our neighbors lost power. We did not, luckily. The sump pump was continuously grinding away, or we would have flooded the basement. ComEd crews were working for hours afterwards in the neighborhood, cutting down trees off the power lines.
In CHicago, a 3-story apartment building had it's roof blown off.
Never seen it so black out for so long.

Morning all. Nice steady rain overnight. Again. The irrigation pipe has been out in the pastures for several weeks but no need. It's been a cool wet one here. They are having some serious problems over in the Gardiner area north of Yellowstone. Houses and bridges being washed away.

They are having some serious problems over in the Gardiner area north of Yellowstone. Houses and bridges being washed away. HELENA, Mont. -- AP -- A torrent of rain combined with a rapidly melting snowpack caused a deluge of flooding that forced the evacuation of some parts of Yellowstone National Park, cutting off electricity and forcing park officials to close all entrances indefinitely, just as the summer tourist season was ramping up. While numerous homes and other structures were destroyed, there were no immediate reports of injuries. Yellowstone officials said they were assessing damage from the storms, which washed away bridges, caused mudslides and left small cities isolated, forcing evacuations by boat and helicopter. It's unclear how many visitors are stranded or have been forced to leave the park and how many people who live outside the park have been rescued and evacuated. Some of the worst damage happened in the northern part of the park and Yellowstone's gateway communities in southern Montana. National Park Service photos of northern Yellowstone showed a mudslide, washed out bridges and roads undercut by churning floodwaters of the Gardner and Lamar rivers.

Glad you managed to stay unscathed, Marshall.
Today, we are picking up old friends who are visiting here from Australia. We plan on picking them up, lunching at Fat Milo’s, then the girls go off to a stamping/crafting thing while Ted and I head over to the Evergreen air museam to see the Spruce Goose and assorted old warbirds. Dinner at Casa Colima.

Good morning 72F-95F humid mostly sunny but it sure ain't sunny right now. Starting to not like our Fire Marshall. The grandsons cut back and/or removed a lot of the bordering yard plants and piled the material near the back of the yard to be taken to the yard waste center when they are done. The center charges per load so we want that load to be as big as what can be safely moved in one trip. The Fire Marshal wants the waste removed daily because the pile attracts mosquitos. The reason we are cutting the stuff back is because thick brush attracts mosquitos. ![>:D](//storage2.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/superangry.png) I tried to explain to him about it and that I would have to rent a trailer to remove the stuff but he will have none of it. This must be done right away or the city will do it and charge me BIG bucks. Also he finally explained what room has" lack of escape", my office/spare bedroom. My computer desk blocks one window and we have things stored on the floor in front of the other window. All he had to do was be specific and the problem would have been resolved right away. So today I will rearrange that room so both windows are clear. I'm putting a small AC unit in there which will make one of those windows a non escape window. Rearranging the room is not a bad idea anyway as it will allow me to give it a good "going over" once things are moved.

Very hot here with thunderstorms this afternoon.

Good morning. That's some nasty heat a lot of you are having.
Yesterday when I was hiking in our mountain preserve, I took a snapshot of a scene I liked. I realized later that I hadn't quite nailed it so I went back this morning at about 5:20 for another try. Took my tripod and resolved to do it right. As I was approaching the place to set up my gear, a snake slithered out of my path. I could tell it wasn't venomous but it got my attention. As I was taking a bunch of photos of the scene I suddenly noticed billows of black smoke in the background. I studied it and concluded that it was far enough off that I didn't need to run for my life. A serpent? Fire? It's a good thing I don't believe in omens or I'd go back to bed and hide all day.
Enjoy your day.

Rearranging the room is not a bad idea anyway as it will allow me to give it a good "going over" once things are moved. You only need one window clear. You need 2 means of egress. The stairs is one. An escape window will function as the other. What the hell does the Fire Marshal have to do with yard waste? He inspects for fire safety and fire safety alone. He's over stepping his bounds.
