I have (rather late) remembered that I ought to get insurance for the guitar I'll be taking to Augusta--even with a flight case and a guitar-friendly airline that lets me gate-check, I'd hate to have something catastrophic happen to whichever instrument I take. (Current candidate: my Shelley Park Elan.)
I used to have a rider on our homeowner's policy but let it lapse when the Plague stopped my travel plans, and now State Farm wants an appraisal for anything over $1000, which is clearly inadequate for the Park. I'm beginning to think that a Heritage policy (which would also cover other irreplaceable guitars) might be the way to go. Time's getting short now, so I have to figure a solution that is quickly implemented (and not crazy expensive).
Any experience/advice/caveats?

I assume you have a picture of your guitar. If you had the rider lapse..... You might have to find another insurance Call your State Farm agent?! You can buy another seat for your guitar. You can buy a first class ticket - a spot in the closet. (too expensive) I've never had a problem - United Airlines (there's always stories about ugly luggage)
