I have no intention of becoming a vegetarian, and my experience with fake meat confirmed that. I've tried several and they're all pretty gross. Except for one. I love chorizo but it is really not a good thing to having on a regular basis. The difference between fake meat chorizo and fake meat other stuff is that while the other stuff is made to absorb the flavors around it, fake chorizo is made to have its own flavor. It cooks up nicely and looks like real chorizo when it's finished. It's not quite as spicy as the real stuff so I will add some flavor to it next time, but the flavor and texture are close enough that I really don't mind this stuff at all. I cooked some up, added some black beans and corn, (next time I'll add some hot chili powder and a maybe some tomato paste) and had some pretty darned good tacos last night. Unlike fake meat hot dogs, which taste as far away from a regular hot dog as mouth wash tastes like milk, I'll be getting soyrizo again. In my estimation, pretty good stuff. I think it'd work well in a regular diner chile recipe with this instead of ground beef.

I may have misunderstood the term “vegetarian diet.” I figured if all the animals one eats are vegetarians, that’s a vegetarian diet.

Last summer when we visited our younger daughter, she made enchiladas with Soyrizo. I expected the worst but they were surprisingly good. Enchiladas have a lot of other flavors which may have covered up any false notes.

VI, you might try adding a bit of smoked paprika.

My only thing with many of these products is the shear amount of sodium they put in them (the easy way to make soy tast like something). In the case of this brand, eating one of those two sticks is almost half your daily sodium.
There are other spices that can be used, but more often than not, they just put a ton of salt in it.

Good point, Joe. I’ll look at the package before I buy another.

Ok, after looking it up on the interweb, I'm see 420 mg, which is 18%. I have no idea what that means, however.

I thought hot dogs (and bologna) have always only ever been fake meat.

Fake meat...... I should try it but I don't really care for it.... But I can't taste. I should try it anyway.
I have been a omnivore for 70 years. I had dinner with a whole chicken or huge steak. I'm a lot more moderate. I eat more fruit and veggies and nuts. But I still love meat and of course how about Bacon. I need to find a new better nutritionist.
Almost every senior has changes their bodies - no salt, no wheat, no milk, no cheese, no meat, vegan diets, etc. It seems like there's a lot "depends"
So I had a smoothie, a lot fluid and I just prepared chicken soup. I need to get some Cadbury and Hershey chocolate. (in my cupboard);-)
I don't drink alcohol (in my cups);-(
