And to be honest, it is not the subject matter. The fact that the government CDC is promoting and area that young adults can come to and providing a mechanism, to quickly hide what you are doing from parents, does not make me feel good at all. Once again, not the subject matter, the fact that the government is promoting a site, that provides a quick switch so you dont get caught... Q Chat Space

That's simply sickening on many levels, including the subject matter. What the hell's wrong with these people?

That seems very strange. Do they not understand that the people they hope to serve already know how to communicate privately as a group?
Do they not realize that advertising such a “space” invites every hacker and bot on the planet?
On edit: I haven't yet checked out the site but if it offers professional help it could be valuable. That assumes the site is truly secure and active monitoring assures that unwanted people, hackers, and bots are kept completely out.

It took some digging, but I found it at the CDC site as one of nine resources under Resources for "LGBT Youth and Friends/Supporters." It is described there as "Q Chat Space is a digital LGBTQ+ center where teens join live-chat, professionally facilitated, online support groups. Also available in Spanish (disponible en español)."
It's presence there doesn't bother me at all.

Yeah, way behind the curve. I wonder what strategy/technique was being offered as a means of "hiding" what you were doing. I've read in the past, and not even the recent past, about similar tricks for office workers who want to quickly switch their screen to something work-like when the boss walks up. On a mac it's control+arrow key to jump to a different desktop. Or maybe it's a version of uber's kill switch?!?

In the workplace many games had that so you could play all day and quickly take you to another screen to make it look like you were working. While the concept was the same, the issue is we have a government promoting this so you don’t get caught by our parents. So the role of upbringing by parents is not approved by the government ? We will tell you what we think you need to know, oh and don’t let your parents find out. Don’t worry we will provide a mechanism so that you can hide all we tell you from them. Once again, I’m not targeting the message this site represents, I’m alarmed that the government is choosing to provide what they think you should know and hide it from your parents. That is wrong is so many ways. What’s next ? A mechanism to report your parents for teaching you things we don’t think they should be teaching you and we will have the same exit strategy so you don’t get caught reporting them.

And teaching this same crap in the public schools without letting parents know or have a say doesn't really happen because, doncha know, it's not in the official cirricula. Well, that's what I was told here anyways.

Good resource. For one thing, likely to alleviate misery, self harm and reduce suicides among vulnerable teens. LGBTQ teens are all too often in home situations where it would be unsafe and have bad consequences for them if their family or community were to learn about their sexuality in a badly handled way.

It's enough information to cause concern but not enough to support an opinion.

By behind the curve, I guess I'd expect media-literate kids--those who have anything to do with what supposedly can be blocked--would be ahead of this gov't offering. They'd likely already know three other ways to do it, more effectively.
Like they'd see this govt way of doing it and wonder what grandparent had come up with that type of thing.

Having had many contracts for government at federal and state level, they have never been state of the art and when outsourcing became the practice, it became worse.

Maybe like everything liberal, outrageous, and nonscientific it will ultimately eat itself. Here's looking forward to that day.

I haven't seen the material yet, as most have not. Interesting how posters here seem to be searching for references to support their view of government. I ask that they look to whether they want to learn the truth or just to gather ammunition.

Familial rejection and abuse, both physical and emotional, sometimes culminating in homelessness and worse are a very real fact of life for some LGBTQ teens. Confidential support systems including online are essential. Not all families are safe for those teens should that confidentiality not be assured. This should be obvious.
