Boomers get blamed for everything these days. We are now being officially blamed for the fact that companies can’t find workers.
Common belief seems to be that all those folks who got free money from the government during Covid had just decided they didn’t want to go back to work. But of course, those benefits have stopped, both here and in the US, and people still have to eat, and have bills to pay. The job numbers for the 20 to 50 crew in Canada at least, are showing a higher percentage of employment than they did before Covid. What’s happened is the boomer demographic has seen a lot of retirement. Economists have been saying it was coming, but with Covid, a lot of folks who were close, who could go, have gone.
So there we go. We did it again.

I like to think I’m “Boomer AF”, but I was born in 65 so I might be an Xr.

I can personally testify that nobody wants to hire boomers anymore. However, there is just a bit of boomer revenge there. I was reading the other day about municipal water systems are having a hard time as boomers who actually know where valves are and have the skills to override them when the fancy computer controls go on the blink are retiring in droves. Similarly, who needs someone that can actually wire the computer control systems up? Ha ha!

Two years after he left, they’re still phoning him trying to figure out who shit works. Another old friend who was an engineer is 70. He finally had to tell the place he retired from that he would not be able to do anything for them anymore, as he was no longer doing the education upgrades being an engineer requires. I could probably get a job in a second around here, but it wouldn’t be anything I’d want to do. It’s the restaurants, bars, wineries, any place that doesn’t pay terribly well. “Would you like to supersize that sir?” All the kids have moved up in the world.

After I was "downsized" from my 25+ year job I got a couple of calls from the guy who inherited some of my duties wanting to know how to do certain things. I finally told him I didn't remember even working there.
