We're in a La Nina. It's expected to last into the Fall. La Nina usually means cold in the Midwest. Sinusoidal jet stream that can dip low bringing arctic air to the midwest.
El Nino usually means W to E flow in winter. Heavy rains on the CA coast. Milder weather in the Midwest winters.
It's all about water temps in the Pacific.
