I've tried posting this twice. Both times it vanished. Anyway, I asked my daughters if they would be interested in the Sunflower Experience and suprisingly they were. So off we went, with Emmy, who is lonely since Kim and her two best dog buddies have passed away. Other people apparently loved it too. There were a whole bunch of us there. I was a follower, trailing behind this: Sunflowers were everywhere. It was like being in a field of sunflowers. I walked up to a guy about ten years older than me. I said it doesn't take much to entertain us Iowans, does it. His response was that what I said was exactly what I was thinking. So I looked up from our conversation and took a picture of what we were looking at, which was kids playing in a a pile of corn in the middle of a sunflower field while parents who didn't know each other chatted away. Some things seem goofy but I'd rather pay six dollars to wander around in a sunflower field than fork out money for a movie theater any day of the week.

That is timely, we just made a detour during a road trip today so my wife could gaze on a big field of sunflowers. They are such a happy plant.

Sunflowers are great. We have them in the yard and there are a lot of them in our area of the city.

I wonder if you spray them with salt-water if they'll begin to dissolve in a cloud of green smoke.

In my quest to chase flocks of blackbirds out of my sunflower fields, I would mow a few criss cross strips so I could get at enough areas to chase the birds out rather than just from one end to the other (I would race up and down my paths in the "C" while carrying my auto 12 gauge with an extended magazine blasting away on the go: One year, it occurred to me that with a few more curls and crosses, I could make a pretty good maze for the kids, so I did. It was a 150 acre field of tall flowers and it was an adventure. They loved it, so I did it the next two years as well.

I remember seeing fields of them when visiting relatives in eastern Nebraska when I was a kid, but no such thing here. To us Iowans, a field of sunflowers is a delightful thing to see. As is wandering through one.
