Up. Too early. Oh well, coffee and a bagel. Bike ride early, before it gets too hot. Then Nita’s folks are coming over for pinochle and burgers. And that’s our Weds day, banged on the guitar a bit last night. “Let the midnight special…”

Slept in. By that I mean slept until 7 instead of my usual 6. Coffee is calling my name.

Good morning. It'll be warm here today but tonight we start a stretch of wet and cooler weather. I'll be taking a walk soon and then doing a little maintenance in the yard. Enjoy your day.

We heard coyotes howling in the distance last night. Coyotes are mangy beasts but for some reason I like hearing them sing at night. Reminds me of an old Bill Staines song.

We’re off to Des Moines to do our annual (except for the last two years) show at the Iowa State Fair. All y’all have a good day.

Good morning. Cat is off to the vet and I have to practice the set list for my upcoming gig this weekend at Viking Days (Viking's town festival, huge event, you've probably heard of it). Taking the Brazilian parents to a Thai restaurant tonight. I am up to eight words in Portuguese. When Anne isn't nearby, the dad and I talk using the translators on our phones (although, in fairness, I am the truly hopeless one, he can cobble enough English together to get the basics across. Lot's of back slaps, fist bumps, hugs, and other assorted body language).

A take it easy day. I'll be off to the grocery store later this morning and once the dew is off the grass I'll mow at least some of the lawn, maybe just the part other people can see.
I need to do some packing this evening, I'll be heading to Milwaukee tomorrow for Irish Fest.

A few days ago a guy came into my shop for a setup on a Taylor. Turns out he was a retired music professor at Saint Johns and Saint Benedicts colleges. Classical Trumpet. Dale White-Russ you might know him. Anyway he likes jazz too and I invited him to come down to the wine bar last night to sit in with us. Our trumpet player knew him. Anyway it was almost spiritual hearing those two guys play together, the off the cuff harmonies and phrasing were the real thing!! He's the guy on the right with the Flugelhorn -
