I'm sitting here drinking tea before heading up to get ready for work. We played a show yesterday afternoon at a local winery in a large, quonset hut building. No sound damping. The acoustics were atrocious. I THINK we played well, but even with floor monitors we couldn't hear ourselves with any fidelity. It was a constant mush of sound. Even closing instrument cases caused an echo. Ugh.

54 degrees right now heading up to a balmy 59 with rain. We have a cold drizzle going on right now. It’s very fall-like out there. I may actually wear long pants today.

"quonset hut" takes me back to about '71 in korea. Is there some comparable term for the WWII-era barracks someplace like ft polk? At McMurdo in '68 we were building a new facility for the scientists and workers to live in which would replace what we were living in, canvas Quonset huts with interior insulation and an oil stove. We had about 30 guys per hut with double bunk beds and metal storage lockers. At one end of our hut we had an addition made of wood with a stove and a table and a closet that was set up as a urinal made of a metal funnel attached to a hose that went outside to a 55 gallon drum. The room had a refrigerator small freezer style door on one wall that opened to a shelf outdoors where we could keep the beer cold and sometimes some steaks stolen from the chow hall. The other end of the hut had an entrance way with an outside door and an inside door so you came in, closed the outside door and then came inside. The oil stove kept the inside temperature above freezing and always had a bucket of water on it to provide some humidity, We were only allowed to take our clothes off once a week in another building that had showers and hot water. You'd go there on a schedule once a week, mine was on Thursday night and I had 15 minutes to undress, turn the shower on and soap up, turn the shower off and wash, turn the shower on and rinse off turn the shower off, get out and put on clean clothes, drop the dirty clothes in a bag to be washed and returned to my bunk. Since then "Camping" to me has been a bad Holiday Inn.

Good morning. I'll be heading up to Flagstaff today for an overnight outing. I want to check the condition of a couple of favorite places that wildfires went through earlier in the summer. I've heard that one is in pretty good shape. It will be a sort of photo outing but any photos will be incidental.
Enjoy your day.

Coming down off the ijam high and getting back to "normal". It seems strangely quite today.
I will make a trip to Cedar Rapids late this morning, I'm still in the dark ages, and can't deposit checks by taking a picture of them, so gotta do it in person. I'll tie a few other stops on too, hardware store and grocery store.
Tomorrow we'll get back to music, practicing for our next gig.

I woke from a very vivid dream last night. I left my Gibson behind somewhere and didn't realize it until I opened my empty case just before I was supposed to go on to an open mic before a packed house. Somebody found the guitar for me and Robin Petrie came up to me and said Paul Hostetter wanted to accompany me on stage. We were going to play I'll Be Alright and I hadn't played it in years, but Paul said he'd have my back.

Good Monday Morning
Chilly air found its way from Iowa to Michigan overnight.
In recovery from IdiotJam. Most of the stuff made it from the van into the house last night, sorting it out will take much of the day. A trip to the coin-op car wash is in order. Even after driving through rainstorms in Illinois, Iowa gravel road dust is pasted to the exterior and creeping inside the doors. OF course, it blends with the gray exterior color, so maybe I will just leave it.

Good morning.
52F-76F sunny.
Visit from a old buddy and bass player in our early 80s band. Steve "Mosh" Mosher will be shacking up with us for a few days. He's been living in Tucson.
I will try to get shop time in first today and errands later.
First, some breakfast.

Gorgeous weather day, perfect, in fact. I'll take down the driveway barrier today and actually start using the damn thing. Just had some scrambled eggs with Pico de Gallo from La Reyna in Vinton, there's good eatin'.
More computer access problems with the workplace mothership this morning, but all appears well now.
How 'bout dem Vikings?

Brrr... it's too cold outside to leave the house, 47 degrees. But, I have band rehearsal. The sacrifices I make for my art.

Got the new COVID vaccine this past Friday, and am feeling just a bit achy and tired. The show goes on, though, and so does Monday clinic.
