Took a while to get there...
His technique is all wrong. The ideal squirrel bat looks like the "bed snake bats" of old (google if you choose for some images, and a nice somewhat NSFW story). About 12" long, preferably lead-weighted at the business end, but still shaped like a bat.
The high-pitched screams and flailing about he does is actually recommended, as it confuses the squirrel. And a confused squirrel is a tasty squirrel.

I have never had to chase a squirrel around my house, but for smaller rodents, namely mice, I find a tennis racquet to be most effective.
In one house that we lived in a mouse would occasionally wander out of the utility room and amble across the carpet in the family room. I kept a tennis racquet near my chair and could quickly get out of the chair and whack them. (I was, of course, younger.)
Advantages of the racquet are many. The size of the head provides a large hitting surface so extreme accuracy is not required. The strings not only reduce wind drag when you swing but also cushion the blow so the mouse is stunned by not smashed into the carpet.
With a little practice, I learned to use the racquet to pick up the mouse which I would then carry into the back yard, flip in the air, and serve across the back fence.

Barb had a squirrel in her house before we were married. One fell down the chimney and got into the house through the fireplace. It hid in her drapes, chewed on window sills, and created mayhem for 24 hours until it was caught in a trap. I would have shot it 12 or 15 times. Barb released it in the woods.
