Good morning. October is the month when temperatures here drop rapidly and we're all enjoying it.
I'll have my usual Zoom breakfast and trip to the grocery store. Then I have to do some research and fill out my mail-in ballot. I know what I'll do in the races with candidates but we have a number of ballot measures that I'll need to figure out. I have a pretty good idea how I'll vote on some just from seeing which neighbors have signs favoring a measure and which neighbors have signs opposing it.
Enjoy your day.

Yesterday, the high was in the 40s. Today, it will be in the 50s. Tomorrow, the 60s. Saturday, the 70s. Sunday, it's sposed to hit 80. This is a wacky place. I will make a Culver's run today for a burger and side salad. Not sure about the Flavor o' the Day custard, Midnight Toffee, which seems a bit over the top with Heath bar bits and "novelty chocolate," but the espresso element is certainly appealing.

Chilly day at Casa de Arbustos, starting off in the low 20's. Not much on the calendar today other than work and a book club get-together, for which I did not read the book. I voted last Friday via our early voting center. The biggest challenge was the local school board races, as candidates tend to be opaque regarding the issues I'm interested in.

Killing time before a Covid booster appointment so I'll check in. Having a good and bad week. Monday night, after dark, Mary asked for a ride to the drug store. It's a short drive so I took her. I hate driving at night and I too am expecting Cataract surgery soon. On the way home I couldn't really see the street in the dark. Stopped at a stop sign, checked traffic, turned left and found I wasn't as close to the side street as I thought and the car fell into a drainage ditch, which also contained a phone pole. Pushed the left front tire assembly back about 3 inches and smashed the left front fender into the pole, which I didn't see until I hit it. I managed to back the car out of the ditch and drove it home despite a bad grinding noise I thought was the tire against the fender but in the morning light I saw that the tire wasn't where it belongs. So, my Outback is out of commission for awhile. I called State Farm and Jake must have been busy because I got Kristen instead and she took care of the tow to the repair shop and they'll pay for it other than my $1000.00 deductible. I have no idea how long the fix will take or what the actual cost will be but my part is $1000.00. Fortunately, we still have the Buick.
Yesterday I had a follow-up with the cardiac unit at the hospital and I'm in good shape for an old guy 10 months after the heart attack. When I told them I'm expecting Cataract surgery soon, they said the eye place will want a cardiac clearance so they postponed the EKG and ECG until I get the surgery date so it will be current. My blood work is better than it was 8 months ago and my heart sounds were good so as far as then can tell, I'm fine.
Been trying to play guitar but it's still frustrating and not up to performance specs. I'll keep trying.
Y'all stay healthy, OK?

Got the dock out yesterday. That’s a big deal and harder to do by myself each year but a little winch system I rigged up has helped to flop the sections onto a steep bank. Marty told me his wife’s uncle had the same rig.

60 yesterday, 60 today. We're warmer than the cities. Must be western thing overruling the northern thing. Will finish with the daffs and lilies then I will bury the one tender rose I still bother with, an old hybrid-T variety called "Dainty Bess". It won the gold medal "Rose of the Year" award in 1918. The last "single" to do so. I love the dark maroon stamens.

Early voting is on my agenda, but not today. I have researched all 11 propositions and have already decided which way to vote on all but one. The candidates are mostly an easy choice. Today Mr. H and I host a lunch at a restaurant for our social club. We'll be stopping at a natural foods market on the way home to stock up on hot cereals. Then do our walk in the late afternoon. Then choir practice this evening.

As always we are left with the choice of the lesser evil.

What brand are those boots? I'm probably set, but I'm starting to develop a taste for different sets of footwear.

Bruce, sorry about the car. Bad night vision is the shits. That is the reason I am looking forward, eventually, to cataract surgery.
I rode my motorcycle to work today, wearing an N-95 mask. We apparently have some of the worst air quality in the nation due to forest fires to the north and south of us. It should improve tomorrow with rain.
