A Chicago soundstage performance in 1978 with The Whites. Notable for appearances of a young Ricky Skaggs and Jerry Douglas as well as a banjo player I think Dub has mentioned here, Bob Black. The lead guitarist Frank Reckard playing a Les Paul jr. With a B-bender has an interesting story involving a major career change. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Frank_Reckard

Thanks, Terry. Loved seeing that. Yes, Bob and his wife Kristie are good friends of ours. Fiddlerina has been playing in their band for two or three years now. Bob was hired by Buck White following a two-year stint as one of Bill Monroe’s Blue Grass Boys. Bill always said Bob was the best banjo player on fiddle tunes he’d heard.

Great show, thanks for posting it, Terry. Anyone else find it a wee bit odd that the closing tune featured Ricky on lead vocals rather than Emmylou?

Yes, great show. My favorite Emmylou era. She always had great musicians. Saw her with the Nash Ramblers. For $7. Fantastic sets.
Too much phase shifter. But that was 1978. I used it a lot in '78 too.

I was going to watch part of this, but decided to wait and watch the whole thing.
Bob Black and his Band are fairly regular at the Farmer's Merc in Garrison. I'm quite fortunate to have them playing just three miles from home. One reason I really enjoy hearing them (well, Joy of course) is because of what Black can do with his banjo. He goes way beyond the three finger roll and is downright melodic.

I was at one of the Sound Stage shows back then. Not that one. Can't remember what.

I listened to the whole thing tonight. Emmy Lou always sounded at her very top best when playing with the Hot Band. On top of everything else, their vocal harmonies really boosted her up.
I can't say how many times I played her "Last Date" album over and over again.
