I can read hundreds of comments and reviews, but any opion from someone I know is always so much better.

GarageBand comes to mind. Last time I looked it was free from Apple's App Store. Link

Gene, thanks for the input. i remember trying to mess with garage band years ago when iPads came out and remembered that there is a learning curve. I was looking for something really simple that would sound decent for a minute or so and what I came across tonight was an app that comes standard on an iPhone, Voice Recorder. I so appreciate you response, Gene, I appreciate you taking the time for that.

VI, Like you I would like to find a simple app that would allow us to record, receive and send mp3s on iPhones. I do not think that it exists. It is the one of the many things about Android phones that I prefer. Good luck in your search. Let us know if you find something.

We use several but I don’t think any are “free.” I stay away from “free” apps because nobody develops and supports apps without expecting to get a return somehow. If you aren’t paying them then they are forcing you to watch ads and or selling your personal information.
I can recommend one or two if you’d like.

One of the apps we use is called Voice Record Pro. It’s actually free but there’s an in-app purchase to do away with the ads. Fiddlerina likes this one and I use it once in a while. I pay to avoid ads. It handles pretty much any format you’d like. The one I use more is MultiTrack DAW. DAW stands for digital audio workstation. It’s a little more complex but with vastly better capabilities. It really does multi-track but, using the iPhone’s mic you have to record each track separately. I can’t remember what I paid for this but it was worth whatever it was. There are also in-app purchases to increase the number of tracks it will handle. Hope this helps.

My daughter interviewed me last night for a school project about personal identity. Her iPhone is a few years old, and she is unable to re-download Voice Recorder, which somehow disappeared, so she used the phone's camera, with the phone lying flat on the table. Where there's a will...

I see that I can record to Voice Record Pro and send the mp3 by email. Great! It is a very nice app.

Dub, I'm with David in thanking you for this. I would have thanked you two hours ago but I'm slow in figuring things out, but after playing around with Voice Record Pro this is exactly what I was looking for. Thanks so much!
