Today is guitar store day. Carter's is by appointment only on Saturdays now (I assume so they can avoid all of the tourists like me), but Gruhn's is open. I think I will also check out Rumble Seat, as it appears they have a lot of funky stuff in stock. There are a couple nice shops in Franklin, which is not far from Nashville. Artisan was a good shop but I think they are really pushing Maton guitars and are only open by appointment now.

Well, my "adventure" turned out to be a stop at Trader Joe's for a few things, a car wash, a drive to West St. Paul for Pollo Campero takeout (15% veteran's discount!), then a little time at Holman Field, very little in the way of air ops today. Took the slow route home, past the cathedral. I love St. Paul.

Just a beautiful song.
I allowed myself a day of self-pity, a 7 mile walk in the woods, and an afternoon of mostly napping. Tomorrow I start over and hopefully I can go back to adulting with my chin up.

Artisan moved to Nashville, and is apparently all Maton all the time. I ended up going to Gruhn's, Rumble Seat and Carter's. We poked our head into Carter's and asked if they were appointment only today, and they told us to come on in because they didn't have many appointments scheduled. It was a good thing, too, because I came home with a guitar from there. The same one I had been looking at back in August, a 1910's Knutsen Hawaiian/convertible. Apparently the only one built with a 7-fret-to-the-body Spanish body design. Since it had been sitting there for a while, they were willing to take an offer. I think I will now have to get rid of a guitar, probably my Gold Tone Hawaiian since they are now priced almost as much as I paid for the Knutsen even tbough the Gold Tone is entirely plywood. I think the Knutsen will move ahead of the Oahu in the lineup of Hawaiian guitars. The Knutsen unfortunately was not on the Carter's website, but it is undoubtably the cheapest Knutsen I have ever seen (even ones that were parts-only). Rumble Seat has an amazing selection of electrics for sale in a very small space. We're pretty sure one of the other guys hanging out in the store was a "somebody" but we couldn't tell who. And a couple of the folks in Carter's appeared to be "somebodies" as well. Rumble Seat had a few of Scotty Moore's guitars, along with an amp, for over $100K. There were a couple of very old Marshall combo amps, pre-stack, that were not for sale. A Gibson harp guitar on the wall was reasonably priced for a Gibson harp guitar. There were some very cool Martins at Gruhn - the 0000-sized guitars that George spec'd out. My favorites of all of them were the 0000-15 guitars. I thought I might like the sound of the fancier ones but go figure. I also liked the sound of the Taylor 424 urban ash guitars - definitely warmer than the bright sparkle I normally associate with Taylor. But my favorites at that store were (1) a 2021 Gibson custom shop 1934 Jumbo reissue (relic'd), (2) a Martin Rich Robinson D-28 (also relic'd) and (3) a Zamar Journeyman. The Zamar might have been my favorite - it played and sounded much better than I would have thought. I think the soundport had a lot to do with it. Actually the Gibson probably was but the action needed to be lowered (there was enough saddle left that it could be done with saddle left over). All in all a great day for leaving fingerprints on guitars.
