Someone just sent me a link to a compilation video of a Patsy job we did at Glenn Elvig’s Creek House in early February just before the pandemic shut things down. (The Radtkes were there) It was one of the best shows we ever did. Sadly we called it quits last summer after something like 14 years together. Cassie moved to Wisconsin. She was hands down the best and most professional vocalist I ever accompanied. The music just flowed out of her soul.
I hope somehow Creek House will come back. (BTW I just noticed that the b/w picture at the end was taken by D Radtke from the balcony)

That’s just wonderful!
I see Kevin seems always to be using a thumb pick. I didn’t notice any finger pick but maybe I need a larger viewing. Terry seems to using bare thumb.
That Shake, Rattle, and Roll clip reminds me of a question I’ve long wondered about. How is it that the line “…One eyed cat peeping the seafood store” got by the censors in the early ‘50s when that tune was released? We’re they so removed from Black culture that they didn’t understand? It reminds me of the line from Keep On Truckin’ Mama that goes something like “What’s that smells like fish, mama? Tell me cause I really want to know.”

Wow, what a nice video. Did she change clothes during the performance? Videography is great. (Though we need more visual on the rhythm guitar )

As you might expect from Glenn Elvig at Creek House he had a professional videographer and sound man with a feed to camera off the board. Yes, she does change. I think she did four changes for Creek House. The band will do a couple of songs when she changes mid set, and then she does one at intermission. Todd, Tony, and I were happy being out of the limelight and just trying to create a good foundation . Cassie had all of Patsy’s unique phrasing down well and for me I really had to focus to keep the groove solid. Dub Kevin usually just uses bare fingers and thumb. He is a very good picker. I didn’t notice that he was wearing a thumb pick. He is a veteran bar band honky tonk player all the way from his teenage years with millions of gigs under his belt. When he filled in for our original lead player he remarked that it was one of the first times he had ever played for a sit down audience. Here is a little vid of him in my shop years ago after I put a thin line Lace pickup on an old catalogue archtop he had.

Terry--what's that on the guitar in the background? That was a new size 2 getting broken in on the Tonerite.

I watched the whole thing. I've heard stuff from you folks over the years but this compilation sums it up more than well. I'm fortunate enough to have attended a Soundhole gathering where the Saturday night concert was at Creek House; what an honor not only to play there but to be able to say I've simply been there. Glen Elvig and his wife were more than quite generous to us. I remember you said you were a scientist so you were going to play a science song, Terry, and off you went with "The Galaxy Song". It was great.
But I digress. I never had the chance to see you folks live, and I've heard some recordings, but his compilation was wunderbar. Hang onto it, download it if you can. You want to keep it around.

The band does a great job backing the singer. Well played!

Thanks Todd and David. I think that show was the tightest one we ever did. We put in a lot more prep time than our usual winging it routine. We all knew it was a big deal. I remember Cassie saying something to the effect of not wanting to hear a bunch of wrong tempos and bullshit behind her. She was a delight to work with.

Well that was fun. It was a hell of a show and I'm glad we were able to catch it.
Whoever got that picture at the end must have downloaded it from facebook, but I'm sure it was a color picture when I took it...
