I’m up, on my first cuppa. Spent a rather miserable night. The wind was howling here. Freaked Nita out, it sounded like stuf was crashing into the house. So of course I got the job of getting out of bed and checking on things, At Midnight I had to get a ladder to take down some wind chimes on the patio that were going spastic. Still blowing hard this am. The ice storm is supposed to hold off until 3pm today. I’ve decided old man winter is an asshole. It’s 22 degrees here right now.

Up, having the first cup of coffee looking at the snow, wondering when the high winds will kick in and make a real mess out of the 4 inches that came down overnight. Weather prognosticators appear to have been about spot on with snow amounts. We moved the remainder of the wood pile into our back screened-in porch so we are ready to burn some wood in the fireplace! My local wood purveyor is on notice that I will need another load next week when it warms back into the 30s. I recently acquired a Weber Yellowstone Mandolin and I have been playing the dickens out of that lovely collaboration of woods. Sitka Spruce top, beautiful Maple back, and sides. It was finished out in a Redburst finish and with new strings, it has quite a lovely tone.

Windy and a chilly 28 degrees here. Office party scheduled for lunch time, and likely home early. I need to pick up one more gift for my paralegal before heading into the office, so will work from home for a bit.
My weather predictor indicates that the freezing rain will hold off until 5:00 p.m. Hopefully the power stays on for the next few days.
I hope John keeps warm clothes and emergency supplies in his mail transport rigs!

The Colts cut a defensive player who had a good game against the Vikings. Apparently he displayed excessive competence.

A lot of people got five or six. I just happened to think of the answer before my fourth guess and I couldn't find anything else that worked.

My tractor-for-hire showed up at about 2 ayem as I was taking a baffroom break, cleared out the driveway nicely in like 2 minutes, and now the city plow has just come by and left a big ridge at the end to seal it in. But the plowing service monitors the sitch pretty well, so I suspect they will be back out before too long. Not really snowing or blowing at present, and 12-below. Soldier Field on Sunday -- forecast? Saturday Bears vs Bills—10 degrees, 40-50 mph wind gusts. They just said on the TV news you can get tickets on stub-hub for as low as $11 for the game. I would consider it (being cheap) but I have to play and sing in church Christmas Eve.

More likely that I will put a new bridge on it first. This is a 2000 Yelllowstone and the bridge is kind of a wonky design that failed to impress me! It uses rosewood wedges on the side with a hex head screw that, in theory, allow you to raise and lower the action. It works well going up...not so good coming down. Action is not bad but just a bit higher than either of the Eastman's. That said, tone is very nice for the price point. You will want to play it for sure!!!After that, the James Tailpiece looks killer!!!

I knew that Newhall is in the same county as Vinton. This was taken at an Episcopal church in Dallas. His wife is doing a medical residence there. They'll be back here in a year and a half.

Below zero and high winds predicted but the anticipated snowfall has not been as bad as expected. Looks like the Twin Cities got a lot more. Power of the Runestone to divert storms again! Went to see the Lori Line concert at the local performing arts center last night. She is on a midwest tour. I had never seen her live. She is certainly the master of sappy arpeggiated piano and self promotional braggadocio, but a real high energy professional show person. I told Pat that I felt like I'd just chugged a quart of Maple Syrup but still glad I went. Her husband was the MC. Both pencil thin, well toned, perfect hair and impeccably dressed. Candelabra of course. At the end she took requests from the audience, wrote them all down on a piece of paper, (maybe 15 or so) and ripped them off in a medley with key changes, appropriate chords, and interesting transitions without missing a note. That was impressive! www.lorieline.comThe key to illusion is making you think what the Illusionist wants you to think. She knows what tunes are likely to be requested because she didn't play them yet. She hooks you by writing them down while she figures out what order they must be in for the key changes, distraction/ misdirecting. This is not too difficult as she is just arranging them so she doesn't hang in one key too long. Remember she has practice in doing this and like any good Illusionist is comfortable with it. This is no slight to her musicianship as she is damn good, it's praise for her stage performance. Bill is correct because Liberace did that too.

I never warmed to the instrument, as amazing as it is in terms of available sounds, power and pitches, etc. Oddly, I typically like organ music only when it's played softly. Our local classical station has a weekly organ show called "Pipe Dreams" that has the revealing time slot of 6 to 8 a.m. on Sundays.

When I was a kid, before a lot of people had home freezers, a meat locker was a communal storage freezer run by a local butcher. You could buy a quarter or half a beef at far better prices than grocery store and rent a locker to store it. You retrieved what meat you needed for a day or two. Home freezers made that sort of meat locker obsolete.
