So, I changed the strings on my guitar the other day, and, every time I do that it sounds tinny and thin for about three days. Then it seems to settle in and sounds like it should. Why is that?

To hijack a thread, and I know this has been answered before but I dont' remember, why do strings sometimes go sharp instead of flat?

I think it's the same mechanism that governs which direction the water spirals when it goes down the drain in the northern and southern hemispheres.

To hijack a thread, and I know this has been answered before but I dont' remember, why do strings sometimes go sharp instead of flat? Temperature is the main reason. Your hands tend to warm the strings which makes them slightly longer, enough so that they may go slightly flat and need tuning. Playing outdoors in the sun will do that too. When you set the guitar aside, the strings cool and become slightly shorter causing the pitch to rise. Changes in your guitar due to temperature and humidity can affect string tension too.

Just holding it, and of course playing, would put it out of tune. And in the link: "air-abrasive strings". --for me that's a new one.

It's one of many reasons I don't like new strings.

Elixirs seem less uber-twangy to me from new at first strum/pluck.

D'Addario Make the acoustic bronze "Flattop" set. They sound broken-in right off the bat and have a smooth feel, no squeak.

The squeak is what makes people who don't play think you know what you're doing.
