I think I've mentioned that I haven't been able to tolerate even a sniff of Scotch since, for some reason, I decided to mix it with milk and ice cream, repeatedly, over and over again, during a high school cast party.
But, during a holiday gathering a week or so ago, I tried some during a whisky taste-testing session, and I liked it. So, for Christmas, I bought myself a bottle of Johnny Walker Black Label (figuring it was a decent, middle of the road, starter Scotch. Plus, it was on sale).
Well, I'm sipping it now (over ice), and thinking of Bruce. It's mighty tasty! Merry Christmas, you old coot!
(ok, so we're all old. So... Merry Christmas all you old coots!)

I have a bottle of Redbreast and Bushmill's single malt. Haven't touched a drop of either in about a year. Although i did have a wee dram of Bailey's on ice last night. Maybe on New Years but if not then next Christmas. I do miss it.

Sipping some Johnnie Walker Red Label whilst listening to English Pastoral Composers. Black Label is quite smooth, but not as flavorful as its less expensive sibling.

My son and DIL gave me a bottle of Glenlivet 18. I sampled it on the rocks Christmas morning. It's a good sipping whisky. I had told him years ago when he asked about single malt vs. blended that any single malt that was old enough to vote was fine by me. They also got me a small, 10" battery powered chainsaw that will help with the smaller branches and I tried it out before any serious drinking. It works too. Good Christmas overall.

I got some butter scotch hard candy. That probably doesn’t count, huh?

I got some butter scotch hard candy. That probably doesn’t count, huh? I keep a bag of those in each car because I'm not allowed to vape in the car but I am duty driver for long trips. I use the candy to keep me from committing murder from nicotine withdrawal. I do cheat when the boss falls asleep in the passenger seat.

Merry Christmas to you and Bruce and all. I just got a bottle of Belvenie 21 Life is good. Belvenie 21!!! Good for you! All I ever drink anymore is Belvenie 14 and I love it. Lar introduced me to it and for me there is no going back to anything else. Probably best I don’t try 21. LOL!

I'm a suggestible guy, I guess, because this thread prompted me to open the bottle of Shieldaig single-malt scotch I got for my birthday back in November. I seldom drink spirits and when I do I prefer bourbon. My wife doesn't seem to remember that. But this stuff is very flavorful. Ancestry.com currently tells me I'm more Scottish than English (though not by much) and so I guess I'm getting in touch with my roots.

Suggestibility dictates that I sample a snifter of Auchentoshan American Oak which I was given a bottle of, back in a minute..... not bad......hang on.......it also now turns out to be quite potable with a glug of ginger wine and an ice cube added. Cheers all!

I haven't consumed much scotch for over fifty years. Not sure why. I like scotch, I just never buy any.
I like good whisky and when I buy it, it's usually Bourbon (Maker’s Mark) or rye (Templeton or Cedar Ridge). I realized the other day that the last bottle of Maker’s I bought, at least a year ago or maybe two, remains unopened.

I generally don't buy alcohol for myself. Our family Christmas yesterday turned out to be a bust since daughter and her husband tested positive for the Rona a few days before so our Christmas celebration is postponed until next Sunday so I'll have to wait to see if scotch o'clock is imminent.
In the meantime, there's plenty of wine.

I need to get some bourbon for New Year's (egg nog recipes). I was thinking Maker's Mark would be a good choice.

I've got one recipe that calls for bourbon, one that calls for bourbon and cognac, one that calls for rum, and one that calls for rum and bourbon. I've used rum in the past, but thought I'd branch out.
