It now seems prudent that the full year's budget was passed in december. Imagine if it had just been postponed till now.

Let's hope it goes on for a long time. A paralyzed congress unable to do anything does not seem like that bad a deal.

I understand the sentiment but I can't agree. It would mean welshing on our debts, among other things. We can certainly disagree about how much debt we should incur but I think most of us would agree that we should honor the ones we do incur.
One of the ringleaders of the rebellion in the house, Andy Biggs, is a guy I've dealt with, don't like and find scary.

It's kind of like handing a crack addict $1000 a week because you're pretty sure he'll figure out that it's good to quit before he kills himself or worse, someone else.
How long do you continue to do that?
That's the problem with, "Oh, we can all agree to stop spending before we destroy the country".
Sure. Just keep believing that.

"'A block of House Republicans should get together with Democrats to pick a speaker to run a coalition government, which will moderate the House and marginalize the extremists,' suggested John Kasich in a tweet that was viewed more than 5 million times. He’s the former Ohio governor and representative who has turned into a cheerleader for moderation in recent years."
Too sensible. It could never work.

It’s been fascinating to watch the first gender neutral sex change procedure on live TV. Henceforth the former Mr. McCarthy will be known as “it” or “them” and if elected tonight Mx. Speaker”

The Republicans won. The next speaker should be a Republican. Although I'm not an admirer of McCarthy, I wasn't troubled by the idea of his being speaker. Now that he's apparently giving the far right veto power over any compromises, though, I'm very troubled. I wish the Democrats and the more moderate Republicans could agree on some Republican they could all live with and elect him or her instead of a guy who has bartered away his ability to do what's best for the country. Your view may differ.

A much better use of his skills.

It sucks when democracy works like it's designed to. Particularly when Democrats have completely forgotten how it's supposed to work.
