Happy birthday, Mr. President. Born this day in 1732.
Portrait by Gilbert Stuart, 1796
Here is a photo of the famous Presidential dentures, which were made of ivory, metal, and horrifically, other people's teeth:
Have a pleasant day, all. Midwesterners, take care in this upcoming snowstorm.

The Runestone force field continues to impress. Looking like the bulk of the storm may slip just south of us. Only a few inches predicted at this point.
I planned to have a rope rigged up between the shop and house. May not need it.

Good morning. 13F-23F snow So most likely we are staying home until at least Friday. Got plenty of food and my meds are all filled. The only real present danger is losing power but the power company has lots of crews on standby. Without power people will use alternant methods for heat and light. A properly installed woodstove is fine but trying to build something for heat can be a serious problem and the Firemen may have a difficult time reaching where they need to be. Same goes for light, candles must be positioned correctly and watched. I have flashlights and plenty of batteries. This is MN, we've all been through this before. A blizzard or snowstorm is bad but a ice storm is worse. 26 Days Until Spring.

Morning. Had fun last night at the Tiki bar, taco Tuesday seeing old friends who have retired down here, lots of laughs and commiseration about getting to be old farts, . This is Modernism week in Palm Springs, and they are big into the design architecture movement, tours of homes, Frank Sanatras house, Lectures, art and all of that.
When Nita gets up we are heading over to Sherman’s for breakfast. After that we will see. If the rain holds off I might squeeze in a bike ride. It’s sunny now but cool.
Wordle today. Sheesh. Wordle 613 X/6

Winter storm is beginning. Three inches of snow and ice predicted today with another ice storm overnight. Schools closed preemptively in anticipation of horrendous conditions in the afternoon. We have sufficient supplies and dry firewood if the power goes out.
Heading out to pick up eldest granddaughter before the city streets get icy, then retreating to the workshop. Daughter works today and tomorrow, DIL works tomorrow (daughter is a nurse aide, DIL is a RN) Short drives through the city, but streets will be slippery and there are lots of hills between their homes and workplaces.

No snow and I doubt we will get any. But, it is a tad nippy out at -15, but it should warm up nicely by mid-afternoon to -8 or so.

Temperature should stay in the low 50s much of the day. Expecting winds up to 50 mph and some rain. Worse wind in other parts of southern AZ. There have already been some downed power lines and poles.
A good day to stay home, which I believe I will do.

We went out with the kids last night for a belated birthday dinner to a food-court like place fitted into an old warehouse in Minneapolis. (Market at Malcolm Yards, over near the Surly brewery.) A dozen little walk-up restaurants and a self-serve beer tap wall around a central area with tables. Lo and behold, one of the restaurants was the Wrecktangle Pizza place that Bill posted about, with the award-winning pizza. Melva ordered one and it was quite tasty. We have leftovers in the fridge.

Wet snow and rain hit the windshield on my 7-minute commute to work today. An inch or two of snow is predicted for tomorrow.

11:30 and all is well at my place. There have been a few sprinkles but nothing of consequence yet. If the predictions are accurate I'll be right on the edge of snow/ ice and the ice/rain later today. Last evening on the weather they said the time most likely to have significant ice was between 6: and 9: am. Maybe, cross my fingers, I'll be lucky.

When we used to have some big snows and my wife was working for the hospital, they used to allow nurses and the like to sleep in spare beds so they didn't have to go home. Do they do that up there?

Looks like we’re headed for a high of 71 today. In Indiana! In February! It will cool down towards the weekend, with highs only in the mid 40’s.

PS: I have some sort of cold/upper respiratory thing so I am working from home today, with access to this forum. It's blocked from the office.

I'm not sure whether medical facilities around here make arrangements for staff to sleep over during inclement weather, but I suggested to my daughter she might want to plan on it when she gets off work at 11:00 PM. There is a really steep hill between her workplace and home.

There is a really steep hill between her workplace and home. I worked the 3-midnight shift in our old newsroom for many years. If horrible weather hit, the company would pay for us to stay at a hotel a block away, which I did a couple of times.
